ESPN's Britt McHenry reported on SportsCenter Friday that the Jaguars would have drafted Blake Bortles even if Jadeveon Clowney slipped to No. 3.
Per McHenry, the Jaguars view Bortles as a "once in a generation" type of quarterback prospect. We're not sure we buy this pure-hindsight report, but there's no question Jacksonville is exceedingly high on Bortles, considering they drafted him over Sammy Watkins, Khalil Mack, and Mike Evans. The Jaguars' current plan is to sit Bortles for most of the 2014 season. Expect them to bolster their offensive line and/or wide receiver corps at picks 39 and 70.

Jax definitely could have traded down like the Browns last night right? Still would have ended up with Bortles if they moved #3 to like #6-10 and got another first rounder

They may have tried to trade it and not gotten an offer but honestly if you know who you want then why chance it unless you get an awesome offer? I think it was a reach but I trust in Caldwell and Bradley because compared to Gene Smith they're fricking einsteins. Seriously, a nutless monkey could put together a better draft than Gene "hey, let's draft a punter in the 3rd" Smith

ETA: Bradley said on mike and mike they thought of trading the pick but because Bortles was a consensus #1 for their staff they saw no reason to mess it up with other teams with QB needs. Also said they knew they wouldn't be a one pick fix and wanted to build for the future.

Basically Bradley said what he's expected to say.

What are you talking about?

BUF jumped up for Watkins
Ebron to DET (Stafford has no excuses now)
Dennard falls to the Bengals
NE upgrades the Dline
Teddy ends up in MIN to round out the 1st
OAK & DAL actually didn't do something stupid.

The Manziel situation was nice until the DALS passed on him

I didn't care for the pageantry, but it was a fairly exciting draft.

I think Buffalo getting Watkins was huge. It was one of those picks that sent chills down your spine.

Ebron was a fantastic pick. Detroit really needs a good TE. Pettigrew looks great, but the dude just cannot catch. This guy Ebron is a playmaker.

And, I think the Browns did well. I liked Gilbert, and you really just cannot pass up on Manziel. You're playing with house money if you're the Browns.

@TyYoungfelt: Bears entertaining idea of dealing next year's 1st to acquire additional 2 this year - have 5 players w/1st rd grade still avail, 1 top 15

9ers just traded 2015 4th/conditional 3rd for Stevie Johnson. Good move for them. Surprised that they didn't trade a pick from this year since they have so many.

Big Ten goes without a top-10 NFL pick for 6th straight year.

I realize that the Big Ten has fallen behind the other major conferences, but that is ridiculous. Maybe Rutgers & Maryland will help

@MikeKlis: I know the Broncos like LB Kyle Van Noy. Would have to trade well up from No. 63 to get him though.
PLEASE! Go get him, Elway!

The Manziel shite was the worst thing about Day 1.

The rest of the draft was awesome.
