My Minimum required contribution is 5.5% of my salary, while my employer contributes 10%.

I feel like i should take advantage of that rate and start contributing more.

They match dollar for dollar up to 13%? If yes, congrats. And shame on you for not contributing 13% from day 1.

My match maxes at 5% (100% for 3%, 50% for 2%, so 5% contribution to get 4%).

In addition though we get profit sharing that varies in annual performance from 3-12% in my experience.

Average year is 4-5%

Is this a match or do they contribute 13% as long as you contribute 2.5%?

If it’s a match, it’s dumb to not maximize the free money. I know people who contribute to cash after-tax and withdraw it every year, maximizing the employer contribution.

My company matches 2.5% for years 1-5, 5% year’s 6-10, 10% year 10+.

Matches up to 5% if I contribute at least 5%. (I contribute the maximum allowed by the IRS)

5% automatically, then they match for an additional 5%.

They also increase employee contributions 1% per year (no extra matching), unless you tell them not to. Painless!

So my own contribution is now at 11 or 12%, plus the 10% they contribute.

Match up to 5%. If you don’t contribute at least enough to max out the match, you are literally giving away money.

Only other consideration is the vesting schedule.

I receive 100% of the first 6%, and there's a 3% profit sharing allocation most years ex-great recession.

If you're getting more than 5-6% you have a great plan. But then how much you make?
