What are you studying/what field would you like to enter yon graduation? Find work related to those things. Even a menial job won't seem pointless if it's at a firm working in your field. Like being a runner for a law firm if you plan to go to law school...

You in BR?

Get on a construction crew and rebuild houses if so. It will help you in your latter years when you need to do your own home maintenance.

Depends if the goal is to support themselves or gain experience.

Waiting tables will pay bills but won't help you find employment upon graduation like a minimum wage internship will

Waiter/bartender. Tutor. Lifeguard. Something behind a desk on campus that lets you do nothing but study.

Depends what year of college. After freshman year, do any of the things suggested in this thread. If between sophomore and junior year, you should try to get an internship relevant to your field.

Tend bar at a nice restaurant or upscale bar in your area. That's how I networked and it paid off. Plus I made bank for a college job.

what do you consider decent?
And as mentioned, do you want somethign you can apply to your working future or just somethign for some money?

Bartender has been mentioned and the money there is good I'm sure, but for me personally I could never do it because I wouldnt' want to stay up til 4am every shift.

One job I had in college that I enjoyed was a car wash. Not glamorous at all, and obviously it's not going to help you on a resume or anything. But it's mostly cash based tips as your income which is nice for extra gas/beer money, you can work odd hours/shifts basically around your school/personal schedule, and it's not difficult at all but not super boring either since you're moving most of the time. Not gonna make a lot of money but I had no complaints.

Wait tables and work your way up to a top tier restaurant asap. You may have to start somewhere like Macaroni Grill, but after a few months, start applying to nicer places. You will usually get better hours and better money.

Also, don't fall for the line that you have to start as a busser first somewhere. They will do everything they can not to promote you.

I worked at a hotel/conference center in the banquets department. Set up tables, served food, broke down conference rooms, eventually moved up to bartender. It was decent money and pretty flexible schedule. Though I usually had to work every Friday and Saturday night, but was usually off by midnight.

Work a state job in your field of interest. It's a good resume builder to land you an internship for the summer, decent pay for a college student, your hours are extremely flexible and the work is pretty easy so most of the time you can just knock out some studying while at work... it's also almost impossible to get fired so if you miss work for whatever reason it really isn't too big of a deal.

Get a job related to your field. Go talk to professors and see if they need help with their research. Get a state job in your field. Find out if anyone in your family has connections to get you an internship or grunt work job in your field.

Just do anything that will count as valuable experience. Being a waiter at a nice restaurant may pay well, but if it doesn't help you get a job in your field, then it won't matter in the long run. And way too many smart people I know have delayed their careers or quit school altogether bc being a waiter paid the bills (though it won't when they get married or have kids)

bartend on the weekends, job in your field on your days off class. You wont have a life but you'll have a hell of a resume and no student debt when you get out.

It's what I do. 65 hours a week between two jobs plus 15 hours this semester. Only two more
