10 yr running away forced their hand no matter what the original plan was imo

Trump and fed are slaves to the bond market no matter what their strategy is.

just a bunch of market manipulation.

I think that's giving the administration too much credit. You have to know what you're doing before you can actually manipulate something.

No shot this is true. Most likely he saw the market tanking and caved. He’s so predictable.

Cave? He slapped an up charge 125% tariff on China today. They are the main objective.

Other countries still will pay a 10% tariff and have 90 days to make a deal.

I don’t support tariffs to begin with, but if you do, that’s what he should have done to begin with. Throwing the international economy into chaos was pointless.

Or he and all of his cronies sold at the top and then bought at the bottom before this news. Market manipulation?

5-6 days of a downward stock market trend does not equal economic chaos.

You clearly haven’t spoken to anyone in the last month who imports anything. Entire businesses ground to a halt because they couldn’t afford to put product on a boat that wouldn’t arrive at US ports for 30 days when what they would have to pay to get said product off said boat might fluctuate dramatically overnight. As a reminder, Trump was threatening Europe with 200% tariffs for several weeks.

Is that not what we did though? The original tariffs were announced well in advance and other countries given ample time to negotiate. They didn't, besides a few. Those few didn't get anything put on them. So, initial tariffs went live.

Now that mroe are coming to the table to negotiate, Trump does this.

Please cite to where it was announced either what the tariff amounts would be or that they would be based entirely on the trade deficit of each country instead of being in any way linked to the tariffs they put on our goods. Then note whether that announcement gave more or less than thirty days notice before enactment.

If you do not have a problem with one person manipulating the market like this you are an idiot..

As op said I hope someone is monitoring govt employee and friends market activity.

Is he responding to pressures or manipulating the market?

He said he was going to tariff people for years now. He has been pro tariff for 40 years.

I'm very much in the "don't assume malice when stupidity would suffice" camp. The way the tariffs were initially implemented were stupid. This approach, assuming he actually negotiates deals and doesn't just slap the tariffs back on in 90 days, is a good one. Its ok to praise people you don't like when they do something right.
