ETA: class is independent of income, IMO.
What about the Aristocrats and Kleptocrats?

IMO:
Lower Class: Up to $15K
Lower/Middle: $15K - $50K
Middle: $50K - $250K
Upper/Middle: $250K - $500K
Upper: $500K and above
What say you, Amurica?
I'd say net worth matters a lot more, imo, in this discussion than a salary at a given point in time.
In other words, someone who was making $75K a year and then starts his own business and the first year makes $500K does not immediately go from middle to upper. And I highly doubt they'd immediately change their cultural and spending habits after one good year.

Middle class should be defined as those who actually pay taxes.

In Louisiana...in terms of household income:
Lower class..under 20K
Lower/middle...21K-35K
Middle..35K-60K
Upper Middle..61K-90K
Upper...over 91K
Keep in mind that it's a bell curve. The vast majority of families in La. are in the 30-60 range. It is not an equal distribution.
Also consider that older families making 80K are not as rich as young families making 80K.

In LA, I would put it a little lower the OP's numbers. 100k for a household is not upper class.

I would bet that 100K per household in La. is in the top 10 percentile. Easy.

Good find fizz, but caveat that your figures are true for an individual, not a household

indeed, i completely overlooked that.

With respect to annual gross income, where do you draw the line between lower class, lower-middle class, middle class, upper-middle class, and upper class?
Another way of looking at it:
When you go to work, if your name is on your shirt then your lower class.
When you go to work, if your name is on your desk then your middle class.
When you go to work, if your name is on the building then your upper class.

2:40 am? Damn dude, do you come in from the bar and head straight to the money board?

I got home, microwaved some leftovers and got some water, and sat down at the computer for 20m or so.

And if you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're" then you skipped spelling class.....

Link. last I looked income does not follow a bell curve in terms of distribution. It has a very very very long tail (i.e. 200M-1b in income), and doesn't fit the model.
Can you provide facts to back this up? Some sort of study, or a graph or raw data?

plus 1.
BTW: What do you mean "in terms of distribution"? A bell curve is inherently "in terms of distribution".
That's like saying "a double-stack costs 99 cents in terms of how much a double-stack costs".
