UPS to cut 20K jobs

United Parcel Service
’s first-quarter profit beat market estimates and the parcel delivery giant said it will cut 20,000 jobs to lower costs in an uncertain economy and in anticipation of weak volumes from its largest customer, Amazon
.
Shares of the company rose nearly 2% before the bell on Tuesday after it said it expects to save $3.5 billion in 2025 from job cuts and by shutting 73 leased and owned buildings by the end of June.
Extensive tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump have slowed down trade and led companies to reduce costs in anticipation of a demand hit. For parcel delivery firms, the slowdown is likely to reduce the need for shipping services between companies.

UPS reliant on shipping cheap shite from Amazon and temu. Hard to tell them apart these days since they basically sell the same stuff.

I wonder if some on the other board applaud this as necessary.

Not sure about anyone else but it seems no matter who is delivering what I ordered UPS, USPS, Fed Ex, etc it never shows up on time. This has been going on since November of last year.

What’s really cool is when you get “proof of delivery” and it’s just a grainy picture of a box on a nondescript patch of concrete, so you have to go into super sleuth mode to figure out which one of your neighbors is now enjoying their free gift.

It’s related to amazon in-sourcing shipping/delivery, no?

Last quarter UPS cancelled its contract with Amazon because of their low margins. It made no sense to think they could then retain all those workers that were happy with the newly negotiated union contract. Tariffs will be great for their PR in the coming months.

One time I had enough of a picture to see that it clearly wasn’t on my doorstep or my closest neighbors’. They wanted me to go walk the neighborhood to figure out where it might have been left. I laughed at them

I’ve had several where the driver will mark it as delivered in the evening and then drop it off the next day. USPS seems to be the worst about that, but Amazon and UPS both do it too

Wasn't this move already baked in? UPS was trying to decrease the amount of amazon deliveries because they weren't making money off them?

We might be talking about the same thing, but often USPS will do the last mile delivery so when it’s handed to them, it’s “delivered” by the previous carrier. Stupid policy regardless.

No, just last week I had something they marked as delivered at like 7:30pm. Check my door, nothing. The next day they dropped it off at like 3pm. The deliverer, I assume, marked it as delivered so they could be done for the day and it would show as delivered on time, left it in the truck, and then dropped it off the next day

UPS chart has me interested. It's always had support around $90. Good dividend.

I was expecting big cut

They haven’t cut their dividend in 25 years. If it happens it will result in unadulterated carnage.

yes. according to what I read UPS requested less volume from AMZ.
It will be spun as the tariffs caused UPS driver to lose his job.

Just sold my 150k of PLTR and snagged some UPS. Can't beat that dividend

Yeah

I think it might have a little turnaround if they dump their ceo who everyone seems to hate. Good support at $90 might hold the price steady in the meantime. But what do I know so lookout if it crashes under $90.

Don't be fooled by rising dividend yield with a tumbling stock price.
AT&T (T) vibes from 2021.
