Stimulus checks would cost more than we have taken in from tariffs.
If you use individuals 18 or older making under 100k, that’s about 423 billion dollars

I would rather see it all go to lowering the debt rather than raising inflation.

If we lower the debt by say $500 billion from tariffs this round, the next admin would just take it as “we have a $500 billion surplus”. The debt is never going down.

I’m interested in how they figure this out. Must be based on taxable income right? Is it averaged for a married couple filing jointly? This is much more complicated than COVID stimulus

I don't doubt that scenario could happen but trying to run the country with that mindset is self-neutering.

My guess is the stimmy won't be taxable income (like the COVID checks weren't), if at all possible. If they can't swing that then it would be on 2025 earnings.

This isn’t happening, so no need to waste anytime thinking about it. First, the tariffs are likely to be unwound by the Supreme Court. If not, Trump has earmarked/promised the money for…checks notes… paying down the debt, aid for farmers, golden dome missile defense system, tax cuts passed in July, child care, WIC, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree. But, tariffs haven’t raised enough revenue to pay for any of those things. Maybe the birds, but nothing else.

What is high income
I heard someone from the administration throw out $100k or less.
Which is bullshite if they claim Middle Class.
Middle Class can go north of 300k depending on family/location.

The fewer people that get these checks the better
Drop it down to 80K for all I care

This fella makes me happy I didn’t vote for him (or anyone else).
$38,000,000,000,000 debt and he’s STILL printing money, throwing it at people, and screaming “love me!!!”

Well it makes sense when you consider US debt is an asset to the private sector.

So more printing
Our kids and grandkids are so screwed. It will never change and we will almost certainly have to go through a slide into socialism before it ever starts to go the other way.
We will be what most EU nations are today. No electable republican will ever do what needs to be done

I think so. Fast food, etc is a minimum wage job, imo.
There was a crazy labor shortage when people were getting paid to stay home. Companies were fighting for labor - paying sign-on bonuses and raising pay rates.
All that expense gets passed on to the customer.
When life returned to normal and demand softened, companies reduced headcount, but the high prices remain.
Companies budget based on prior year sales and are very slow (if ever) to reduce price. Better to sell fewer at a higher price….because it takes less labor.

Should minimum wage jobs keep up with inflation?

Most fast food restaurants have been paying above the minimum wage before COVID. And that's even in low cost of living markets.

They got paid to stay home if they were laid off. You don't get unemployment benefits if you quit.

Of course
