In March 2019 we found a brand new 2018 Camry still on the lot in BR, a loaded XLE, premium sound and HUD, etc. with 80 miles from demo drives. But it was dark brown and a 4-cyl engine and had kinda mild power. Still, we got it for $25,000 and have adapted to the power — which is fine for regular city driving. Great city gas mileage (32) a nice trade off.
It’s grown on me and feel real lucky in today’s market.

We have a Tacoma and an outback. Work well for our family and for work. Both were a little over $30k new. Boring, but safe, reliable, capable, and affordable.

Honda accord or Mazda cx-9 for us and have been very pleased with both. Accord was $25,000 and cx-9 was $36,000 brand new.

I said for middle class people.
You have to give a range. "Middle Class" is a gigantic range by definition.
People in some areas who bring in $55k household are middle class. In other areas $150k is still middle class.
The type of car a household that brings in $55k is a lot different than the one who brings in $150k.
I wouldnt recommend any new or newer car for a household making $55k because too much of your money is tied up a fast depreciating asset. For household making $150k its not nearly as bad. Also cash flow is big here, someone with a lower income could still have much better cash flow than someone with a higher income as well. Lots of variables.

People hate on Jeeps but I love my Grand Cherokee. About to buy another one.
You can get a nice used one for under $50k.
It doesn’t have the reliability issues of other Jeep Models.

The hyundai elantra is a great midsize commuter car. 40 mpg for 21k. Can get the hybrid for I think 25k and get better mpg. Lots of standard tech such as wireless charging and wireless apple carplay. Hard to beat it's value.

I have a 22 Hyundai Ioniq I bought 6 months ago for $23,000 after a $2000 rebate (seriously). It is a hybrid, gets 60 mpg. A little low powered until you put it in sport mode, then it will scoot. Been making them for 6 years with no major issues.

Depends on what you like.
Small SUV
Volvo XC40. I got one for my wife last year, really good ride, accelerates quick, super comfortable. Con - smaller back hatch area. 42k new is what mine cost
Honda CRV - I bought one a couple months ago. 34k. Picked it over Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Rav 4, Mazda (I forget the model). Reason I picked the CRV, more back seat and cargo room. Con - the damn thing shuts off the engine when you’re stopped for more than a few seconds. You can hit a button to make it quit, but you have to do it every time you start the engine.
I put a lot of miles on, so I didn’t see any point in going with the Lexus or Mercedes.

The supply chain issues have permanently screwed the car market I think, manufacturers realized they can produce less cars at worse quality and still get them sold for MSRP. All while having lower overhead due to less factory workers, more profit per unit.
Checked four of the main dealerships Hyundai in Houston for a palisade and none had any except for 1 or 2 at the highest trim models. Toyota is the same way.

You might as well just say people. The middle class is broad

Which is why politicians use it so much. Everyone basically thinks they are because they compare themselves to those above them.
A football player looks at the owner of the team and thinks "now that's wealth."

Volkswagon makes a decent sedan but they ditched the V6. Their atlas still has one, if you are into SUVs.

Bought a used late model Accord Touring Hybrid a few weeks ago. Been enjoying it quite a bit.

I've been looking at these. Does it get around traffic pretty well? Anything you don't like about it?

Gets around just fine. Engine has plenty of get up, and I say that as someone who was coming from the now discontinued Accord EXL v6. But honestly, I now drive more conservatively than I used to because it's almost become a game to me to get the highest MPG I can
At full cruising interstate speeds (which for me is 79mph), I get about 45mpg. I'll routinely get upwards of 60mpg puttering around in light traffic (where the EV drivetrain takes control more often). The adaptive cruise control works like a dream. I would have a hard time buying a car in the future that didn't have it. Interior is very comfortable and definitely feels up-trim compared to other Accords. I could go into more detail, but I don't know which areas you care about.
As for complaints, they are mostly minor quibbles. When the drivetrain switches from EV to ICE, there is a double "pulse" vibration that is noticeable at low speeds. This was my first hybrid, so it freaked me out a bit at first, but now that I know it's normal, I've gotten used to it. Also, I don't necessarily love the sound the drivetrain makes when accelerating through the middle gears when in EV mode, but it's not bad. Just not really pleasant. My model is the last year before wireless CarPlay was added as an option (yes, I know this identifies the year; I'm just trying to be vague enough that the web scrapers don't grab it
If you have any particular questions or areas of curiosity, I would be happy to answer
