May 2022 - 1 USD = 4,000 cop
May 2023 1 USD = 4,500 cop (was 5,000)

Now, looking at this, do you think my purchasing power has increased or decreased even while accounting for inflation.

Take your time. Use a calculator if needed. You can even phone a friend.

The market hit a new 2023 closing high for the S&P500 Index yesterday, 5/26/23: 4,205.45 (which was up 54.17 points, or +1.3% from the previous day's closing).

The last time the S&P closed higher than 4,205.45 was on Friday, August 19, 2022 when it closed at 4,228.48.

The next trading day, on Monday, August 22, 2022, the S&P fell over 2%, down to 4,137.99, and it was downhill from there for the rest of 2022 closing as low as 3,577.03 on October, 12. Happy Columbus Day!!
