Even if it’s $40K per car every 10 years for 50 years it’s still $400K for a couple over their lives. And that’s before any interest.

I’m at $280k since August of 2021 Probably $105,000 was trade in but the rest I paid.

Wouldn’t even want to calculate my shite over the years.

This is not middle class living. More like 30-40k every ten years. This is why people are broke.

Where did it say "Middle class dream"?

It said the American Dream...

I'm not arguing responsibility or what people should or shouldn't do with their money. I"m saying, realistically, that isn't that far off for cars over two peoples lives if they do what they want, not do what is responsible.

A suburban, Tahoe, loaded full-sized trucks/SUV's are wealthy people vehicles now. Non-wealthy people still buy them though.

I paid off my daily driver in 2012. Doesn’t use a drop oil and the AC is still cold

So this tells me a few things:
Ahead in retirement
Didn’t spend that much on children, just one
Didn’t spend that much on wedding
Didn’t spend that much on vehicles
Not even close on vacations, guess I need to do more.
I spend too much on my pets

Guess everyone will have a good time when I’m dead.

Can you imagine spending $1,501 per month on vehicles for 45 years?

Maybe someone's doing that, but it ain't me.

Such a cash flow killer.

Why not buy the vehicles you actually want and then keep them forever. Going on year 9 or no car payments and actually put aside 80k in that span to pay cash for me and my wife’s next new cars

I have no idea what you're trying to say. Can you rephrase?

Basically, he's asking why people don't do what he's done.

He said he's going on his ninth year of having no car payments because he's kept his car instead of trading it in on a new one the moment he paid it off. Because of that he's been able to put back $80k for whenever he and his wife go to buy their next cars, they'll pay in cash.

100%

As I've said numerous times, I will never bash anyone for spending money on whatever they want, as long as they are living up to obligations.

Tomorrow isn't a guarantee and you can't take it with you. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and do what makes you happy.

Some people spend thousands on cars, others on boats, others on trips, others on watches... You do you

frick the haters.

Got my property tax invoice today - ISD [school] taxes about $800 less - pleasant surprise, don't know if a result of Texas Legislation or my age or a bit of both.

Don't fall for it youngsters. A great tactic to convince you to not procreate and have large, abundant families. My advice:

Marry. Have lots of children. Trust the Lord. Be richly blessed.
