Spirit Airlines warned Tuesday that it may not make it through another year, citing concerns over its ability to raise enough cash

quote:

The company is working with different parties for other ways to rapidly raise cash, such as selling aircraft or some real estate assets. Spirit is also negotiating with its credit card processor, which wants extra money set aside as a safety net before it agrees to renew its deal, which ends on Dec. 31, 2025.....

and selling some of its spare engines and then leasing them back to get quick cash.

I'm shocked someone doesn't gobble them up, slap some paint on the planes and profit

Ughhhh, what? Ain’t no profiting from this. They begging for subsidies to a bargain airline

Why buy them now, when you can catch their assets on fire sale after they go under

Spirit collapsing will be far worse for competition than a merger would have been

It wishes.

If anyone ever feels bad about their investing career, consider that I once had an irresponsible amount of SAVE shares at like $95.

I sat next to some Spirit Airlines flight attendants at breakfast at the DoubleTree Hotel near New Orleans airport last year. After hearing that conversation I’m definitely never flying Spirit at any time. They were bragging about how they yell at all their ghetto passengers for asking for water when “bitch you know this water ain’t free.” It was pretty entertaining.

JetBlue tried, but got blocked last year by the DOJ with a judge saying such a sale/merger would "substantially lessen competition" by essentially eliminating Spirit's low-fare model for JetBlue's higher-fare one.

Preposterous ruling. Both companies were just trying to survive. Besides, in transportation anyone can start up a company any time they want. It’s ridiculous.

But Spirit going under because they can't be bought wont.... right.

Hoping they survive, not that I will ever fly on them, but there needs to be a cheap option out there

All the other airlines should bail out Spirit so they dont have to absorb all the childish behavior and fights whilst in the air.

It would be a benefit.

Not even close. Spirit is a terribly run company. Wal-Mart is not going out of business in the next 12 months. These two companies are nothing alike.

Wal-Mart transcends class designations. It has actually found ways to get/keep/grow a customer base who cannot stand the Wal-Mart brick and mortar experience. Spirit will never be able to do that.

Exactly. From what I remember, there was a lot of overlap between the routes of the two companies. Likely it would have just given JetBlue a slightly larger domestic footprint but the real payoff would have been getting more pilots and FAs (they are hurting for both).

JetBlue was overpaying anyway. They may have been saved from themselves ultimately and gobble up the assets for a lot less. (If they aren't bankrupt by then too)
