This is *insane* data below

Obviously I don’t want to see any group suffer and it’s upsetting seeing that much job loss. but I also think it’s disappointing if the white collar cohort of black women since the 1960s was an artifact of patronage hiring/featherbedding within the govt rather than organic advancement within wider/private sector economy

Weird. My office is half black women and every one of them could find another job tomorrow if they wanted. One of them even got hired after OMB.

I would think the dismantling of the Dept of Education would particularly be hard on all women

quote:

n 2024, 73.4% of employees in education, training, and library occupations were women. This is significantly higher than the overall female representation in the workforce, which was 46.8% in 2022. The high representation of women is particularly true for teachers, with nearly 8 out of 10 (77.6%) of all U.S. teachers being women in 2022

I think its more of a look at how women dominated those forms of govt, as it is not a dept that many men would seek out.

Probably a large landing spot for women with higher degrees to land.

Just like we if we fired all the semiconductor engineers. Asian men would be seeing massive job losses.

The article is not just about dept of education

Black women make up ~17% of irs workforce for example

60% of Black women with a degree work for either local, state, or federal govt.

It would be disappointing if federal layoffs cause lingering pain for this group because to me it shows our success in fostering a black female middle class since the 60s was perhaps artificial rather than organic

Birth rate is about to go up.

As I said before, this fits with my personal observations. I’m surprised you guys are surprised.

The one black woman that is in the office I direct is one of the best employees I’ve ever had and losing her to another company would be a massive loss.

She is also MAGA.

Interesting data, for sure. How do we read more on some of these statistics? I'd like to see the demo makeup of the USPS, for example.

FedCo is a 50% jobs program. Taking our money and loading up on federal workers is how they keep the stats up.

Why does your office have such disproportionate representation? What career field is half black women?
