Menace:

That is a good response and I agree with you about sticking it out at LSUS because we didn't really know beforehand.

My understanding from talking to administrators in the MBA program is that the professors receive those evaluations directly. It is unknown how much of that information gets passed along to leadership above them.

geaux: that is exactly right. One of my professors (hint: Amy Wren) said this to the entire class via e-mail when she was bragging about having tenure and that we can basically take our input on how bad her class was and shove it. Obviously a paraphrase but that is what she communicated very clearly.

Several students went to RMP after that. There was a lot of blood there.

Sactown,

Glad you made the trip and enjoyed the experience. I flew in with my wife and kids from SoCal last year and definitely felt it was a worthwhile trip. My teenage daughters enjoyed seeing their dad march.

I'll be coming in from Atlanta for spring graduation.

I see a few Atlanta-ites in here. I'll be in town from Augusta this weekend. Visiting Stone Mountain and Botanical Gardens, checking out a German Christmas market, stopping for the obligatory IKEA Sweedish meatball lunch, yada yada yada. Anyone going to be out and about at anything Christmassy? If so, maybe I'll run into you and we can bitch and whine about LSUS over a hot wine :-)

Let's put our big brains to use to solve this puzzle.

Case Study: An MBA student at LSUS has 7 classes left. Said student would like to "double-up" one term with 2 "easy" classes. Out of the following remaining courses, which would be best to pair and with what professors?

MKT 701
MADM 715
MADM 701
MADM 751
ECON 705
ISDS 705
FIN 701

The only "easy" course here is ISDS 705. Since you have 7 left, you can take MKT 701 solo. Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience or info on MADM 715 and MADM 751, so I'm not much help there.

MKT 701 (James) - single course

MADM 701 (Anyone but Williams) + ISDS 705 (Lin) - probably the "easiest" pairing based on what you have left and my experience

FIN 701 (Vines) + MADM 715/751

ECON 705 (Shaughnessy) + MADM 715/751

MADM751 w. Meeks is practically identical to how he runs MADM760. I think Meeks is one of the better teachers, an easy grader, and I wouldn't hesitate to pair this class. However, it is a somewhat writing centric class and a fair number of people last session seemed to think his class was a slog. I would pair this class with no issues.

MADM715 w. Wren isn't that bad of a course, but if you have a hard time with reading a large amount of information, learning the important parts, and getting tested on it, you won't like this class. There's a 10 minute audio/visual presentation (recorded voice embedded in powerpoint slides) as the primary project in the class. There were a large number of complaints in the session I took this class. A lot of this was around the fact that she references material across the internet and there is duplication of data to wade through. I wouldn't pair it.

I think Wren is a lot like Dr. James in that she has extremely high expectations of what MBA caliber work is all about and doesn't cut a lot of slack to those unwilling to step up. I personally didn't mind the information overload, but it's not in a polished and tidy book, so if you're not used to this sort of learning I can see the shock and dismay over this class.

She is a lawyer and her responses and attitude fit the mold. This really rubbed a large number of my fellow students the wrong way. I get it, but if you've worked with legal people before, she's completely cut from the same cloth.

TL:DR - No, you probably don't want to pair MADM715, but if you do make sure it's an easier class without a lot of deliverables.

She had a very brief legal career as an Associate and failed to make Partner. As for her standards, she says she has standards, but she probably had more grammatical, spelling, and word-usage errors than anyone in the class. Her writing skills show why she failed as a lawyer. When I had her, there was no PowerPoint and her text was written by her. Rather, the text was thrown together with copy and pasted material from other sources she did not give credit to with some of her rambling mixed in. The parts she wrote were filled with errors.

MADM751 w. Meeks

My favorite course. Next to Bigler, I felt Meeks brought highest value to program at that time (4 years ago). Highly advised to take 751 w/ Meeks and was fine to pair, though I’d consider myself an above-average writer anywhere but TD.

@NSAtoMBA...wish I had seen this sooner! I hadn't heard of the German Christmas market here in Atlanta. I would have loved to attend. My German sister-in-law has helped form my appreciation of all things German! Hope you had a great visit to our city!

I'm not sure it's something worth paying for. I've only used the free version. MKT701 with Dr. James strongly suggested it.

Grammarly is OK. I'd call it a 90% solution, as it's not always right. If you're struggling, it's not a bad tool. If you know how to write, it can get in the way of proper writing. It's not bad for catching certain kinds of common typos.

For MKT701 I used it a lot like Turnitin. Modifications to keep the checker happy vs modifications actually required in the real world.

Graduates,

I'm one class away from Graduation, being done in March. I currently sit on a 3.77 GPA (got 2 Bs along the way, both missed by .5 points to a 90.. talk about )
I don't see me doing worst with a single class left, which will put me at 3.8GPA by the end.
Those that were invited to BGS and SIE, did any of you get below a 4.0, and were you guys invited automatically or had to send emails to the respective chairs to each/any of the honor societies?
Want to see what I can do to be part of them if I can.

Thank you!

Hi Everyone, I was recently accepted into the online MBA program and I'll begin my studies in May 2019. I'll be focusing on the Project Management Specialization, although I may decide to switch to General Business. I was curious if others in this forum pursued the same specialization and what your thoughts are on ISDS 715 and ISDS 720. I'll be taking one (1) class at a time. Any recommendations as to which classes I should take first and which order to take them in? Any good recommendations for professors? Any information/feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I graduated Dec 2015 with a 3.8 and was automatically invited to BGS in Mar 2016. I received email invite from BGS and (the same day) a separate email from LSU-S faculty advisor with nomination letter and form of intent to attend ceremony. Make sure you save your personal email address in your LSU-S email settings.
