Those that were invited to BGS and SIE, did any of you get below a 4.0, and were you guys invited automatically or had to send emails to the respective chairs to each/any of the honor societies?
Want to see what I can do to be part of them if I can.
I had a 4.0 and was automatically invited during Fall term.
Several people who completed their program during Summer term did not receive invites even though they qualified. They had to send emails (M. Darrat for BGS, F. Williams for SIE) to get invites.

Let's put our big brains to use to solve this puzzle.
Case Study: An MBA student at LSUS has 7 classes left. Said student would like to "double-up" one term with 2 "easy" classes. Out of the following remaining courses, which would be best to pair and with what professors?
The only "easy" course here is ISDS 705. Since you have 7 left, you can take MKT 701 solo. Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience or info on MADM 715 and MADM 751, so I'm not much help there.
MKT 701 (James) - single course
MADM 701 (Anyone but Williams) + ISDS 705 (Lin) - probably the "easiest" pairing based on what you have left and my experience
FIN 701 (Vines) + MADM 715/751
ECON 705 (Shaughnessy) + MADM 715/751

As far as textbooks go, I had a law prof at UF (Go Gators!) that wrote his own textbook and it was as scatter-brained as he was. There was no way to follow it. They may be good professors but maybe they should not be writing their own text book unless they have a background in it.
I had a few of those as well at UF (Go Gators!). I started out pre-law there, and professors with their own textbooks were common, especially in courses like Sociology and Psych.
At LSUS, James offers a self-written textbook, but it's incomplete and has to be supplemented. Vines types a wall of text into a Moodle page instead of using a textbook.

Hopefully LSUS listens to the course evaluations and are trying to make it better for future attendees.
My understanding from talking to administrators in the MBA program is that the professors receive those evaluations directly. It is unknown how much of that information gets passed along to leadership above them.
quote:
People really need to stop hating on this program. It doesn't do anyone any good.
I have to strongly disagree with you on that. LSUS, like a majority of universities, treats students like public school 8th graders that are in compulsory attendance instead of adult professionals that are customers paying for an education.
Anyone who has spent time in MKT 701 or MADM 760 should know that understanding the customer is vital to long-term success. Public, negative customer feedback outside of the formal evaluation process is a tremendous indicator of where improvements should be made. The LSUS MBA program needs to seriously evaluate how it conducts itself and make large improvements moving forward.
Situations like the Fall '18 AP2 ISDS 710 disaster, the tone-deaf Data Analytics concentration, Lin's 10 years out of date ISDS 705 autopilot course, lack of logical prerequisites, content quality due to the free textbook rule, the inconsistency of quality from one course to the next, and vast inconsistency of instruction between sections of the same course are real problems.
Pointing out these problems is not being a hater, it is telling the truth. Personally, I'm not highlighting these issues just to be a complainer. I want to see LSUS improve for everyone's benefit - value for those that are in the program, value for those who may be in the program in the future, and value for the degrees of those that completed the program.

Just got back from commencement. Here are my thoughts:
Great to hear your thoughts on commencement!
quote:
4) The commencement itself was a full 2 hours with undergrad and grad students together. Nice keynote but a really long and drawn out production. There were tons of enthusiastic families yelling and shouting, often drowning out names of the next to be called. Overall a 6 out of 10 stars
I drove 5 hours each way to walk. I mainly did this to show my kids what hard work looks like and would recommend it if you would like to do the same. If its only you or just you and your spouse and you're further than 1hr away, get your diploma mailed to you.
While I did not attend in person, I watched the commencement live stream and opted to have my diploma mailed. I would have ended up feeling pretty disappointed if I had driven 10 hours or hopped on a flight to go alone. I would have gone if I lived within a close drive. The ceremony felt very drawn out. While I understand the enthusiasm for those earning their degrees (since I fall into that category), the screaming families seemed a bit over the top.
quote:
5) The diploma itself is a puny 8.5 x 11, no logo and very unassuming. 5 out of 10 stars
That's disappointing but not unexpected given the track record. My undergraduate diploma, which is not from a top-tier university by any means, is 11" x 14", embossed with a university logo, and quite nice. I did end up buying a really nice looking branded diploma frame since the LSUS diplomas I've seen in Google Image search looked fairly pedestrian.

I walk away from this program relived its over but with mixed emotions as to whether I made the right choice, not that I can change anything now.
You should still be proud of completing the program in the best way possible: an MBA with a 4.0 GPA, and BGS and SIE invites. Regardless of how many of us feel about the quality of the LSUS MBA program at the moment, the best way to add value to this degree is to excel in every way possible and demonstrate that this was a serious personal endeavor.
I can tell you that I exhaled a huge breath of relief yesterday when I finally saw "Degree Awarded: Master of Business Administration" on my transcript with a big 4.0 under it. Now I need to figure out what to do with all this time in my life back.

James also teaches MKT, but the feedback from her class appears to be even worse than the Darrats'.
I took it with James. To say the workload is intense is an understatement. Weekly reading, weekly exam. Most weeks there will be a “discussion forum post” which is really a full blown research term paper in disguise. Then there is “The Project,” a two part monster of an assignment that spans Weeks 4-7. Weeks 4-7 are a test of will to see how much you really want that MBA, since you will be doing reading, tests, research, and writing 2-3 papers simultaneously. Putting in 30+ hours a week during that time period for that course alone is not uncommon during that period.
With that said, much like Meeks, James is up there with the best instructors in the program. The content is useful and can be genuinely applied to modern business. James is super interactive and seems to genuinely care about her students’ success. Just be prepared to put in work well above what is expected in other courses (outside of Meeks, anyhow).

What do you think about taking Finance 701 with Vines ? Is there a better choice over him ?
Vines is the best instructor for FIN 701. Definitely take the course with him.
Grades have officially posted for AP2. Nice!

I have the following left to take any thoughts?
Acct 701
Madm 760
ISDS 702
Madm 701
Possible Elective : Madm 720
Thoughts? Prayers?
MADM 701 with Williams, while not a great instructor, might allow you to have that last week mostly available for your vacation. There is reading, a discussion forum post (500-word minimum initial post + reply to another student, opens Friday, due Sunday) and a proctored weekly exam (not a comprehensive final, opens Wednesday, due Sunday) during week 7.
MADM 760 with Meeks (if you can get a seat) can be a completely dead Week 7 if you finish your Synthesis Paper and Group Project in Week 6. That is a MASSIVE amount of work and stress though.
ISDS 702 with Koksal is a relatively light Week 7 if you can get in. Watch a video lecture, do an assignment problem in Excel, take the proctored weekly exam (available the entire week).

Told yall.
Stop hatin on Meeks, shite.
The guy is a pain in the arse, but I really did enjoy the course overall. Way better instructor than the Lins, McGees, and Darrats.

Meeks grade is posted, he graded very leniently on the synthesis paper in my opinion.
Just received mine as well, got 100%. I am so relieved right now! I’ll officially finish the program with a 4.0.
Yup, they are due tomorrow.
Has anyone received their grades on Meeks' paper yet? Just curious...

Has anyone received BGS induction ceremony details yet? We are two weeks out and nothing. I sent Dr. Darrat a note a week back and he said something would be sent out "in the coming days".
Darrat is too busy avoiding having to do anything in ISDS 710.

If there are no repercussions for not taking this exam then why would anyone take this exam after the fact? They didn't do a great job in framing out why they are asking this from us. If its merely a tool to improve then why have it proctored? If its an AACSB requirement, then why not explicitly state that? The latter would make me more inclined to participate only because I value that accreditation maybe more so than they do.
Right on the money here. There is nothing in the "invitation" that explains the incentive to actually take this "assessment." It implies something vague about AACSB accreditation, but that's it.

Congrats @GeauxUF! Will you be attending the commencement ceremony? I'm in Atlanta also. Hope to finish in time for the May 2019 ceremony, which I will be attending.
Nope, I'm staying right here in the ATL. Well, OTP, anyhow.

That's the point, I thought this was over, it's the gift that keeps on giving. Honestly I'm not surprised, the last exam is representative of the program as a whole, cobbled together and disorganized.
Have you taken it yet?

I'm assuming its AACSB hoops you need to jump through. I don't remember what I had for breakfast, I'm probably not going to do all that well on this exam.
What I don't understand is why this is coming up right this moment, less than 72 hours away from the term ending and 10 days from commencement, right in the middle of the holidays. They've been doing Fall AP2 degree checkout paperwork since October and haven't mentioned anything. I wonder if people who completed the program in Fall AP1 and have been done with the program for 8 weeks had this dropped in their lap as well?
This is now the second time this term that Dr. Knotts has sprung last minute, surprise twists on things I'm involved in. The first was her demand to change the entire focus and structure of ISDS 710 mid-term with no warning. Now we get this surprise.
I feel like I've been living in the LSUS version of an M. Night Shyamalan movie the past 5 weeks. I'm so glad this is over.

I just got an email from the MBA program telling me I need to take a 35 question Proctorio proctored end of program exam as part of their AACSB accreditation. While this is not a "test" as they put it (wont impact GPA, graduation or anything) I wonder what the content will be like. Hoping its not ISDS705 heavy! Anyone else get this email?
Yeah, I just got that too.
Exactly why do I have to take a proctored exam that isn't graded and doesn't affect my GPA or graduation status?
quote:
Don't worry about understanding. Don't anticipate any application type questions. Anticipate WORD FOR WORD definitions of terms or agencies. As (unrelated) examples, do NOT expect an application question like:
Remember you can manually change the font size lower than 8. I used 6 point Arial Narrow. It makes it hard to read, but you really have a ton of time.
Scan any text for words you don't understand. Look for a definition or explanation immediately preceding or following it. If there isn't one, you won't be required to actually attempt to think or connect any dots to something in the next paragraph, just move on.
This is the exact strategy to use for ISDS 705 with Lin. It's not about understanding the material, it's about making notes of anything that is an acronym, a definition, a list, or anything you think you need to know word for word on a test. The test is literally an exercise in how good of a note taker you are.
quote:
Do we need to include the same titles as is in the template such as Strategic Management and the nature of Business"and all others as mentioned?
No. You can move the sections around, delete them, change the titles, whatever you want.
