@GeauxUF, are you literally required to write 1700 words a week? How is this broken down? I would have been daunted by that before, but I'm taking both MKT 701 and 705 right now, and I'm writing more than that most weeks right now. MADM 701 will be towards the end of my program, and I want to mentally prepare for it.

Regarding Vines, I made my best exam scores on the qualitative questions. He really is the king of partial credit. Be careful what you are getting frustrated about. His quantitative questions can be VERY daunting. And don't get 8 of 10 quantitative questions. That 60 minutes ends up feeling like 3. Hang in there!

@mm268b Module 3 is open for me as well. Won't be taking the exam until next Sunday though.

I don't know if you saw the emails from last night but he said the exam was 25 questions and you have 75 minutes to take it. He also recommended studying overarching concepts rather than memorizing definitions.

Even with that advice, I'm not feeling good about this exam. 4 chapters spanning 120+ pages of content (in the book) is being distilled down to just 25 questions. I really don't feel like there is enough meat in those slides, which is all we should be expected to know, to get a good feel for broad concepts.

This really just goes back to my complaint that we should have real textbooks in these classes. It would be like an English literature class where the professor tells you that you'll be studying the Cliff Notes of Moby-Dick, but not Moby-Dick itself.

Agreed. At least 75 minutes for 25 questions seems plenty fair.

I wasn't very impressed with the FIN 701 exam. I got about 7 qualitative. The problem that I have with them is that they are very broad and beg for rambling answers. Plus, some of them are actually multiple questions in 1. I think I ended up doing the equivalent of 17 questions on a 10 question test. Things like define these 3 terms, etc.

Looking back, I just don't see how I would be able to effectively distill the content he provides in a way that will rapidly translate to taking the test. I'll just stick with reading the material several times, building spreadsheets for quant and keep winging it. That said, I'm rather anxious about my grade on this one.

Does anyone here have info on 2019 program deadline/start dates?

All I’ve been able to find online is 2018 info.

Thanks.

A tip for Vines tests is to define as many terms ahead of time as possible. I went into some tests with 25 definitions. Make sure they are written in your own words, but otherwise it's smart to be prepared.

My plan for the next exam is to type out all definitions in the reading in my own words into a Word doc. Then I can pull info from that document, paste into the exam, and reword/rework the definitions as needed.

I wasted a lot of time putting everything into my own words. Hoping by doing it this way, I'll save a little time.

This is exactly what I did when I had Vines and it was the best thing i could have done. Every concept, definition or topic in his review guide I would put in my own words. I broke his review guide down like an outline and would leave his words and under in different color font I would write mine. I was able to copy and paste for majority of my question . I did all equations that way also and when I had a quantitative problem my first step was copy and pasting the correct formula because he gives so much partial credit

@baroqen: In F. William's MADM 701 class, in order to get a full A grade according to the rubric, each week you must write a 1000 word assignment with three outside sources, a 500 word discussion forum post, and a reply to another student that is "substantive" that I have averaged at least 200 words on.

James' MKT 701 felt like more work for sure, especially since the project was two massive papers to write in 4 weeks while also writing 1000+ word discussion forum posts.

I can see where you are definitely right here since I ended up getting an A on the first exam despite so many qualitative questions.

I think the bigger issue is that the "review guide," practice material, and Zoom sessions lead everyone to believe this will be a math test, only to have 70%+ qualitative free-text questions with little actual math.

Lots of good suggestions for breaking down the info to prepare for the qualitative side, thanks for that!

I think this is just luck of the draw, though, unless he's changed something with the class since I took it. Vines always told us the test was designed to randomly pick 10 questions out of a question bank of 30 to 40.

A co-worker of mine took the class with me and this seemed to be the case since him and I ended up with a different qualitative / quantitative mix every test. I had exams where 9 out of the 10 questions were quantitative and I was relieved to have my spreadsheet, full of examples, ready.

Just took the MKT 701 exam with Darrat and didn't do well. IMO, there was way too much information to cover and no way I could have anticipated some of his questions. Lesson learned for exam 2 is to study harder I guess? :)

Also, I was docked 25 points for forgetting to reply to a discussion post last week. I had it typed up but apparently never posted it. I won't be doing that again.

Im trying to triple up for AP2 to get maximum reimbursement from my employer for my general business.

I have isds 705 Linn and madm 760 Meeks. Any suggestions ? I’ve read the past posts , but I can’t quite get a definitive answer on a 3rd class.

Of what is available to you, I would take ISDS 710 with Mohamad Darrat. It was a pretty straightforward writing class with a few simple Excel exercises. There also was a multiple choice final exam at the end (that was really unfair) that I received a low 'B' on, but your grade in the other assignments should make up for it. I also think he curved the final exam grade a bit, but I didn't need it to maintain my 'A' in the course.

Yes, please. I would love your notes. My email is mayann1969@yahoo.com
I struggled with the first exam and didn't do well at all, now I'm trying to prepare for second one. Any notes would help .

Thanks
