The reading guide is your best friend. Be comfortable with the material presented on it. Also, don't focus too much on the math problems. Vines really wants you to understand the material so often he will tell you "only 30% of the questions are math related." I really enjoyed Vines.

Is there anyone on here in the Project Management Class?
Module 1 has been opened. However, there is only 35 slides of ppt material. No templates or detailed instructions for the assignment, no discussion forum, and the quiz is hidden for now.
I'm trying to stay positive but I'm leaning towards dropping this class. This guy may be a great project manager but I'm not sure if teaching is his thing.

I believe this is the first semester of program wide "no cost materials" and the result is some growing pains. I am in MKT701 and the required reading materials are labeled "Coming Soon?".

Not what I wanted to hear but it does make sense that the classes are likely full. Grrr! So what do I need to Do? Just keep checking daily?

Maybe contact the program director to see if they can get you put in manually. I've read of similar instances on here and they were able to get in with some help.

Starting my first class using Proctorio, seems it is just an add-in to Chrome. Can it tell what other programs I have open on my desktop? I get that it uses the webcam and mic, but it doesn't clearly state if it can see what all I have open as far as other programs, etc.
Posted on 1/15/18 at 3:57 pm to fishee2
Yes. It will be able to see your other open programs.

@MBA4me. Vines is a great instructor and i attended all his zoom sessions. He will answer any question you have and is a fun teacher. We had a text book when i had him. I focused on the reading guide and made my own study guide within the reading guide. I would take his paragraph and rewrite the information in my own words. he is BIG on using your own words. I had a word document that i documented everything in. I started with a copy and paste of his reading guide and went from there. During the tests i would copy from my word document into the test on moodle. This saved a ton of time. I made sure every word in his study guide that had a definition was defined in my own words in my word document. Trust me focus on the Reading guide and always leave a answer even if just an educated guess because he gives partial credit. All 4 of my test were split evenly with qualitative and quantitative problems. A lot of people in my class would get mostly qualitative but I got a lot of math on mine. Good Luck!

I am taking ACCT701 with Ambrosio. Everything seems straight forward but he gives no indication as to what the assessment at the end of the week will consist of. Anyone have any advice on what to focus on or what to expect from him

When I took him last term, most of the questions/solutions on the exam were all able to be found in the book. Look back several pages on this thread or search and you'll see where we talked about it.

Thanks Jeaux, I did reread all those post. I noticed that once Mod 2 was over yall stopped discussing the class for the most part. I guess it remained the same throughout the course? It says in module one for example, to be able to prepare a income statement. How is that done with multiple choice and true false? just making sure im not missing something.

Signa7- I am in the class with you!
Did you already take the Quiz 1? Once you take it you can then view the "Module 1 Wrap Up" video. In that Ambrosio mentions that you will need to know how to answer questions regarding:
1. accounting equation (probably need to calculate the assets or do some journal entries)
2. accounting principles
3. retained earnings (again probably calculations using net income or something)
I haven't read back through the forum, but did people say that these assessments would be quantitative or qualitative in nature?

When I took his course, the problems on his end of module quiz/assessment were word for word in the back of each chapter along with the solution. That may have changed from the Fall though.

Does anyone have a writing sample for MADM701? I haven't taken any college courses since 2000 which makes me a little anxious. Really, I just need to get the first one down and should be o.k. after that.
Posted on 1/16/18 at 8:32 pm to ashl3yc0x
@ashl3ycox, nice to know someone on the forum is in Accounting with me! There is no mention if they will be quantitative or qualitative. I am assuming both, just as you mentioned in the post about journal entries and maybe calculating retained earnings. As with any class I am always uneasy the first module until I get a grasp on the teacher.I have finished all my readings but have not taken the quiz. Will take it tonight.

cvan:
I find it ironic that the rubric for MADM701 requires that students offer work that is well-written and utilize "credible sources" when the text itself is basically a string of quotes from this or that self-help book jumbled together with a quote or two here and there from a philosopher and a business leader. The text is full of sound bites and disjointed thoughts. There are 25 citations in the first 5 pages, for example. The kicker is that the text brags on itself for the number of citations it uses as if that means it is based on research, and implies it makes the reader a "Practioner-Scientist" which it improperly capitalizes. All it means is that it is full of disjointed quotes. It really is laughable.
Additionally, there are numerous grammar errors such as using singular form when plural is required, missing articles and missing conjunctions, mismatching subject and verb phrases, improper paragraph separation, using colloquial language (I lost count how many), improper punctuation, and using surnames of authors when they were not yet introduced to the reader in the text- revealing the introduction was removed in editing or never existed in the first place. It even has run-on sentences. And, it is the 13th edition. I would hate to read the first edition. It reads like a term paper someone wrote at 2AM by combining all the random thoughts written on a set of index cards and calling it a book; and it needs a couple of revisions but it is too late to change it.
It really is disappointing that this text is used in any college course, never-mind an MBA course. I guess you get what you pay for. It was free and it shows.

@BusinessKnight
Glad to know I am not the only one noticing some of those issues. I have definitely had to re-read several paragraphs to figure out exactly what the author was trying to convey. However, I don't hate the text. Maybe it is the HR in me, but I am enjoying the refresher on OB.
@cvan
While I don't have a sample as this is my first LSUS course, it isn't my first grad writing assignment. I gave SNHU a one class shot. (Can't say I would recommend the program) It did require A TON of writing that adhered to a rubric, which has prepped me for LSUS. My advice:
Opening Paragraph that states the concept you will cover.
Body of paper which covers the concept and its application to your work experience or news article
Conclusion that recaps your thoughts. Follow the rubric in its entirety and you should be good.
Hope this helps...a little.

WDE, I also enjoy the topic. I am just saying this text does not do it justice.

I read the first chapter tonight and found it very difficult to read. I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels this way. Hopefully it will get better but I fear that it won’t.
