Both of you made me feel a lot better. At one point during my reading, I thought 18 years may have been too long to come back to school. As I re-read the text, I realized it was the text that was poorly structured. Once the first post is under my belt, the rest should fall in place. It's like that first bit of game action after sitting out for awhile. Sorry for the sports analogy...

Because of new job starting, I am trying to read ahead as much as possible. I'm in chapter 5 and unfortunately It has yet to get better. I am still rereading sentences and full paragraphs. When is everyone planning on taking the quiz? Since its my very first one I'm nervous to just go ahead and take it as I don't know what to expect lol

WDE, I also enjoy the topic. I am just saying this text does not do it justice
Agreed, Ch 1 seemed disjointed to me.

For those of you in MADM701 with Knotts, I have set up a GroupMe called MADM701 CAFE since I see no area in MOODLE for discussion.
Please note this GroupMe will adhere to the honor code and is established as a place to share advice, thoughts, motivation, etc... Group is open to anyone including students & instructors.

Any advice from anyone who has taken Finance 710? It’s hard to put everything into context when it’s a whole document of formulas. How are his test?

@ashl3ycox, nice to know someone on the forum is in Accounting with me! There is no mention if they will be quantitative or qualitative. I am assuming both, just as you mentioned in the post about journal entries and maybe calculating retained earnings. As with any class I am always uneasy the first module until I get a grasp on the teacher.I have finished all my readings but have not taken the quiz. Will take it tonight.
The quiz is easy, and the assessment is super easy. 100% no problem, I don't know why everyone is panicking so much on the chat board for Acct 701.

That course was very time consuming for me personally. The exams are very straight forward if you put time into creating an excel template for every problem in the assignments. I took it last year, but ended with a 99% or something silly like that. Also, MAKE SURE YOU PUT AN ANSWER IN EVERY BOX. You WILL run out of time, it seems like everyone did on the first exam. You get a better feel for the exams moving forward, but if you get stuck just write formulas or SOMETHING. He will give you partial credit even if you are super off. He's pretty rad.

I find it ironic that the rubric for MADM701 requires that students offer work that is well-written and utilize "credible sources" when the text itself is basically a string of quotes from this or that self-help book jumbled together with a quote or two here and there from a philosopher and a business leader. The text is full of sound bites and disjointed thoughts. There are 25 citations in the first 5 pages, for example. The kicker is that the text brags on itself for the number of citations it uses as if that means it is based on research, and implies it makes the reader a "Practioner-Scientist" which it improperly capitalizes. All it means is that it is full of disjointed quotes. It really is laughable.
You think this is WORSE than MADM 752? That text was a freaking joke...This one is horrid though. Seriously had no idea what Organizational Behavior was until page 20 of the stupid text book.
For the papers, I had Williams for MADM 720 (leadership communication) and the TA I had for grading was really relaxed. If you can follow a train of thought you should receive a good grade for the papers. I just don't like that the word count jumped up to 1000.

It was 500 words for William's last class, and 1000 now.
Also I answered my own question for the assignment, I forgot that once you take the syllabus quiz, it opens up the assignment docs (what a stupid quiz).

I haven't taken MADM 752, so I don't know anything about the text in MADM 752. All I know is that the text for MADM701 with Knotts is very poorly written.

That's sad to hear that the textbook being used in MADM 701 is suspect. When I took it a year ago I thought the textbook Williams used back then was excellent. The cost of the book was $200. That's the catch. It was pricey but you get what you pay for as far as textbook quality.
I'm not a fan of the high cost of textbooks but at the same time I have to question what the quality of an open source textbook is going to be when the author or publisher is not receiving financial incentive to create a quality textbook.
I see LSUS's intention in trying to save students money but I also see the negative side to this.

@ashl3ycox,
I agree, the quiz and assessment were simple. I am sure they all cant be this way. I guess we will know after mod 2. In every class I have taken, this is my 6th, people panic in the first module.

Did you have hseigh? Are the test multiple choice or is it like vines where you just work out the problem?

Yeah haha I see that. Module one is always difficult, but with an open note/open book exam I don't see why it would be so daunting... hmm well I guess my Organic Chemistry course was open book for exams and the averages were still in the 30s haha so I see your point.
Hopefully it doesn't get too much harder. We are all too busy already!

MADM701 w/ Williams question, for the assignment, do we just copy our text into the assignment in moodle? If so where does the Turnitin submission happen? I've already asked my academic coach with no response.
In prior classes we had to submit to Turnitin ourselves and then supply the summary report to show similarity %.
This is clear as mud, and completely agree this text is garbage. I can't imagine 50 questions from these two chapters of text.

Last time I had Williams you just uploaded your word document but this looks like you need to copy and paste your paper into the assignment box. It should automatically populate the turnitin score when you submit it.

ashley - you are right, submitted for Turnitin automatically. Of course you lose all your formatting from word by copying it into that text box in moodle, thats helpful.
