Sure, big law. How many attorney’s going into that though? Less than 5%? I’d guess less than 5% of doctors make under $200k and I’d bet less than 10% of law grads make more than $200k.

Again, if you are smart enough and driven to be a big law lawyer or a good doctor this conversation is pointless.

Firstly, this is wildly wrong. But secondly, if it was right it would bolster my point. The guy said the only way to make good money as a lawyer was to be your own boss. My point was that the best way to make good money as a lawyer was to be an employee. Opening your own firm is very difficult.

That $220k is starting out. That’s awesome about your firm, but I doubt very much that anyone can do that.

Big law is a ton of work, but the small firm partners/ solo practitioners I know work just as much as big law attorneys do

B4 advisory can make that with 10-15 years of experience.

I don’t think we really disagree in substance. I never meant to say it was easy to make a ton of money as a lawyer.

I’m glad you said this. I was curious what a small business opportunity would look like if I got a space and hired an artist to take up his craft in said space, if there would be money to be made in that sort of enterprise.

Oh for sure, we are mostly agreeing.

There’s not an ‘easy’ way ever to make $300k. There’s just not. Like I keep saying if you have the brain power and drive to do it and be something like an MD or big law lawyer it can be close to ‘guaranteed’ to make that but that doesn’t mean your path to get there was easy and furthermore didn’t require a lot of work. We are talking many many many 65+ hour work weeks for both of those and for many business owners, tech workers, etc. especially early in their careers to hit that by age 40.

Is this a troll or are you actually serious?

Hospital administrators. I remember a story a few years back about some bayou area hospitals and of the top 2 hospitals in the area both were pulling above 500k and close to 750k. Now the bigger the hospital systems the higher the pay, I would imagine some Oschner folks pulling 7 figures if not more.

Superintendent of schools pays well now, some making close to 300k a year. I can remember when this position was under 100k a year.

Let us also not forget being a Mississippi River Pilot, although trying to become one can be a long laborious task unless you have a family member steer you in the right direction and career path and eventually helping you get into the association.

Alright OP. Been waiting for the thread to get to about 10 pages to avoid the naysayers. But, here’s the answer you’re looking for.

Get a finance degree from LSU and move to Dallas or Houston to get a job in IB. You get paid a NY wage in Texas.

Analysts 1-3 years out of school will make 150-300. Associates 4-6 years out of school will make 300-450. VPs out of school 6-9 years will make 450-600…still less than 30 years old. And so on. Managing Directors easily clear 7 figures at less than 40 years old. And all of this without a graduate school degree or student debt.

Law firms will get you there too, but, with way more schooling and debt.

Now, you’re going to have to work your arse off…especially early in your career. People say and hear 80-100 hrs a week but don’t do the math. That is working to 2-3am and getting back to office at 9:30am…every day…for several years.

But, it will get you there.
