Tell me more about this.
I bought a 2016 car with a CVT (continuously variable transmission) and didn’t buy the extended power train warranty.

NOw the cvt is acting up 14,000 miles after expiry.

Wish I had gotten the warranty because I am considering trading it or paying 4 grand to fix it.

Negotiated for my girlfriends 2020 Camry today.

Got 1800 under invoice which was good considering her specific options and limited stock availability.

Her credit was only 625 so no 0.9% but she got 5.9% from lotalty to toyota finance.

Waiting on gap to payoff her totaled 18' Camry, pay off one CC and she should be close to 700 and she'll be able to refi with navy fed.

They waived transport and delivery fees since they have to go get it, and she gets lifetime oil change, tire rotations and car wash.

She insisted on paying an extra 3800 for Gap and 7 year 150K warranty. She does drive about 20K a year so she's happy and that will keep me happy.

Head manager was pissed when I used the " if she buys today" for free window tint, compromised and said he would do it at cost.

$3,800?! On a car that cost what, like $25k?

Some of the car pricing websites are good for finding the best of the best prices. The only drawback to them is that you'll get calls from car dealers for weeks for things you didn't ask for.

So recently in the market for a new car and I'm finding many dealerships no longer want to negotiate, I've heard it a lot that they are not coming off MSRP and negotiating from trade in. One sales manager flat out told me if I didn't buy it they would have someone else in two days who would.

If you can wait for another two months you probably will do a lot better.

Better yet, December

Car sales getting fat and happy. The day will come but today is not that day.

Everything I have read echoes what you experienced -- Trade-in being the lever you are most in control of for the negotiation as dealerships are MSRP+ on new vehicles.

Guy I know in the business said they plan to start having less new cars on the lot. That they want people to come in and "order" one with a deposit down. That way they keep the leverage since the consumer won't have as many options

Yeah that makes sense

That will allow dealerships to be smaller too. They’ll just have a few models to show off and order what you want.

Evenutually, I think people will just order their vehicle from the manufacturer to be delivered wherever the buyer wants.
Money flows too easily now and reliability really isn’t the issue it was many years ago.

I’d have no problem ordering a car online without seeing it first.

I'd rather have the opportunity to order directly from the manufacturer without the dealer in the way trying to make extra cheese on the add ons and financing.

More than half of dealerships seem like negative things for the customers and manufacturers

Is this method still preferred in 2022?

With the lack of cars dealership are not playing ball near as much. I did get them to buy my rate down considerably though but they wouldn't budge on price.

I was in a discount buying club and bought a car like that over 30 years ago. I filled out a form for the model and options, agreed on the total price, arranged my own financing and a dealership 200+ miles from my location delivered it to my front door. And yeah, that was the easiest and best car buying experience I’ve ever had.

I just got a company car.

I will sell mine and then possibly buy another when the car market takes a decline.

As someone who is in need of a new 3/4 ton truck but can't afford new, this market is frustrating. I'd be fine with buying older but 100k+ miles on 10+ year old trucks selling for $40k+ is ridiculous. The 5 year old trucks (the area I'd like to be in) are selling for $50kish. I just can't bring myself to pay that for a vehicle but I'm honestly starting to wonder how much longer I can hold out.

Where have y’all seen as some of the best financing options? Starting to look around. First time really going this route for a car and just starting to get everything down what I’m looking for.

I left dealership & went to
my office and called another dealership and told them what they were offering & if he could do any better. He said it was was “giving a whip to his dad to use it”. ha. Went back to dealership and got what I wanted. Standing up to leave helps also. This was before cell phones & buying cars for my kids.
