I'm caught in the Target death spiral.

I bought 600 shares of this stock at 163 that last week of May since it seemed decently stable with a decent dividend.

June's crap hit and it's hit a death spiral and flattening out in low 130s.

This has to be my worst buy ever. Just to get my money out of this thing I'm guessing I'm holding this until March 2024, if I'm lucky.

What an absolute disaster this turned out to be.

I'd say if you have almost $100k to put in a single stock you can't be hurting that bad?

yeah not that big of a deal if you dont sell. You never lose money in stocks unless the company folds or you sell. i just view stocks as a long term investment.

If you didn’t already own it, would you buy 600 shares in the 130s with a 2.4% dividend?

However you answer that is what you should do.

What changed in the business that you no longer want to hold the stock?

I’m not up or down voting your post. But I will ask what your goal was when you bought TGT? Was it a longer term investment or a shorter term trade?

I know it sucks either way, when a stock sinks right after you’ve bought it. But unless you were trying for a swing trade or something similar, or unless you think something has fundamentally changed with the company, it’s not something I’d really worry about.

Do you have entry/exit rules?

Anecdotally, I went into Target a few times in June in several different cities in Louisiana (Mandeville, Baton Rouge, Shreveport) to see how the boycott was going. I had K-Mart vibes in the stores.

Stores were largely dead and foot traffic was very low. Target is going to need to start closing its stores in red states, I think, and just concentrate on more profitable locations in blue states.

Also, the cherry on top for me was the transgender checkout “girl” named “Amanda” at one of the Target’s I went to. Pretty much on brand, I guess.

I am 100% serious. I dont keep up with stupid shite, and boycotts for me fall under that category. How did they offend us? I have been boycotting them for about 15 years, so I am ahead of the game.

Went prior to covid after a roughly 15 year hiatus. I'd received a slickdeals tip on pit boss (memory?) pellets. No one in the store knew where they were. Apparently pellets weren't a stock item at my local target. They did sell about 1/4 of their parking lot and a restaurant was put in.
