Why would they cave?
Almost all Chinese production is purpose built to supply the USA. They are being squeezed to the point of negative margins just to endure this. They see companies shifting to Vietnam and India, and are willing to take a short term loss.
While the “people” might be snuffed out, billionaires won’t be. Chinese leaders may be evil, but they are also greedy.

"My financial advisor"
Problem identified. Review and study the excellent replies to you thus far. I dare say most of them have more experience with market corrections than your financial advisor.
At any rate start taking control of your own finances.

Not sure why you think this is only gonna last another week. If there's no intention to roll back tariffs (nobody knows other than Trump) this is just the start and there could easily be a lot more downside
I think Trump needed to open tarrif negotiations in an extreme position to get the best deals. For it to work he has to act serious about these extremes. Once the market bottoms or shows some good support that will pressure our trade partners the most. Then Trump can begin to negotiate. I believe the market will have discounted the uncertainty some time this week. Then things will start to happen to slowly work things back up.

Moral of the story, keep buying the whole way down
It’s never a bad idea to grab discounted shares if you have the cash to do so.

If you lose 5% then gain 5%, you lost money

Not sure why you got downvoted for this one
100-(100x.05)=95
95+(95x.05)=99.75

Because it lacks a basic understanding of investing.

Yeah. I guess it gets your “did you sell” comment. Mathematically accurate, but only accurate in investing upon exit.

Yep, In the same vein as I haven't actually made any money because I bought in at a lower price than it was yesterday. There is a potential gain there, if my time horizon allows it to get back to where it was, but at the moment, all I have are shares.
Nobody loses money because they didn't buy at the absolute bottom.
