I'm talking about professional and not flipping burgers at Carls Jr.

I moved into a new company not too long ago (<6 months) but was approached by another company recently. The other company is larger, better benefits and I'll definitely get a boost in pay than my current company.

If everything was equal, and I had both offers in front of my at the same time, the decision would be easy. However, since I just started the current job not too long ago, it has made the decision difficult.

How would you approach the potential move? How would you let your current bosses down easy by leaving so soon? I'll probably give 4 weeks, if necessary, if I should leave for the new position.

You owe them nothing. You have a better offer so take it. If your current company found someone who could do your job better and for cheaper they would have no problem sending you packing. It's business.

Professional? 11 months.

I lasted 2 hours at a "professional" internship. Told her don't even bother paying me.

As long as you don't have a history of jumping jobs, it will not matter.
If you like your current job, ask for better pay, etc. If not, move on.

3 weeks. I was fired from a college internship after a very important client falsely accused me of stealing from them. The company I was interning with thought it would be much less risky to terminate their $12/hr intern then to upset a client and risk losing a $100 million project.

That was a shitty situation all the way around. The person who interviewed and hired me had been fired the day before I started. I was doomed from the start

Before I went to School I did welding and pipe fitting. I worked somewhere for one week then went back to my old job.

Same location? Will it affect professional relationships that will harm you in the future?

I have heard abotu a number of people leaving in the first 1-2 months when the job they really wanted came through. People were like WTF but nobody judges them really anymore

2 weeks. Was hired as a financial analyst fresh out of school. Moved to Atl. The second week there they asked me about my MBA. I do not have an MBA nor was it on my resume.

I have rarely ever seen a MBA as required. If you didn't have it on your resume then this isn't cause for being fired...why did they want to part ways? Sounds like a terrible recruiting organization.

It was apparently a requirement via HR for that position. Either that or I was horrible the first 2 weeks which I lean towards.

18 Months was my shortest. My manager and I both quit in the same month. That place sucked!

5 months, but I transferred to a different hospital in the same hospital system. I'm not really sure if that's considered changing jobs, because I was ultimately being paid by the same party. My boss at the time was really disappointed that I was leaving and wanted to keep me, but understood that I was going through a career shift and the new position was more inline with my career goals.

Six years. That was in 1988, the last time I changed jobs.

I quit a job I had just accepted but not started yet. We were planning a move to New Jersey when I got a better offer that let me stay in Louisiana. It was for the best, the product I would have been supporting turned out to be crap. And Jersey sucks.

After 5 months I was asked by one of the firm's partners to help him commit fraud. I told him I'd think about it, went back to my desk, and after cleaning out my stuff sent him my resignation. I had a new job within a month.
