Keep in mind that in Louisiana you are required to self report all the stuff you buy online but don't pay sales tax on. I wouldn't be surprised if we had 100% non compliance on "use" taxes in this thread.

Honestly there's so much you can do that's LEGAL if you own your own business....not even any need to cheat, really.

Of course. Ditto maids, babysitters, gambling, etc.

What the outrage in this thread is REALLY about is that it's much riskier to avoid taxes using a business, so most people comply with it out of rational self-interest. This gives them free leave to pontificate from the supposed moral high ground over someone who is comfortable taking more risk than they are.

Nope I paid it like a sucker. But then it's not like I was running up thousands of bucks in online purchases.

To be fair, you weren't in this thread before this post.

I'm going to say the majority of the CPAs do since you can lose your license for not doing so.

There are many small business owners out there who don't show profit & take losses on many things their first two years, & expense their meals, materials, etc. & use mileage as much as they can.

There are people here who are paying for sites like Tigerbait, Scout, BBI, & the Lair without paying the sales taxes on it. As someone previously stated, show me the first person in this thread whose posted a 100% compliance ratio with online purchases and paying their sales taxes on them on the back end?

This may be a bold & ostentatious act on the part of the OP, but lots of you guys have done way worse than operate your car in excess of the posted speed limit & pulled the tags off of mattresses.

You just aren't willing to admit it.

Actually for maids and baby sitters it's a little more complicated. See page 3 of LINK

For example, I happen to have a maid and over the course of the year I pay her about $1400. According to the above link, I do not have to withhold or pay anything at all. I have little doubt that she doesn't rush to pay tax herself but that is her responsibility under the law, not mine.

I do happen to know she is legal, so I'm clear there too.
Gambling - I actually do track this and this past year I lost $10. I didn't bother claiming the deduction.

So there.

Regarding taxes on online purchases, generally retailers I shop with do charge sales tax.

I'm sure you have your I-9 & W-4 on file, and examined two forms of id, even though she was paid less than $1400.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, just trying to demonstrate how easy it is to be a lawbreaker.
