How many people here report EVERYTHING they do according to the strict letter of the law?
You don't?

So you're already purchasing blackmarket gift cards and now you want to cheat on the other side as well? Nice ethics there, skippy.
While I don't understand the logic of posting obvious fraud on the internets. I am sure we have all fudged on taxes at one time or another. Maybe not but I would bet anyone that has their own business has. OP you are an idiot to come here with it but let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

LEGAL if you own your own business....not even any need to cheat, really.
I think there is a lot of stretching going on that if it were examined closely might not hold up all that well.

Keep in mind that in Louisiana you are required to self report all the stuff you buy online but don't pay sales tax on. I wouldn't be surprised if we had 100% non compliance on "use" taxes in this thread.
Anyone reselling should have tax exempt status on purchases for resell. As long as you charge sales tax and pay it on the back end you're fine. This is what I do with my business.

You're right. I'm sure everyone fudges a little.
But...from the tone of the OP it appears that he's looking to hide the vast majority of his income from the IRS. I'd think the people in this thread that do that are very limited in numbers. Hiding $50-75k a year is a serious issue.

I don't think he was talking about reselling.

I can claim mileage on business trips. If I make a trip coincide with an LSU game, didn't I essentially write off a trip to see LSU play?
I was mainly referring to the practice of keeping track of my profits and purchases and then making big purchases in Dec to keep me right in the range of where I want to be, tax-wise.

Yeah a lot of the thread has the tone of "how dare you judge that burglar! I'm sure you yourself have at least one parking ticket!"

I don't think I've ever met a single person who:
--reported tips
--reported gambling winnings
--gone through the proper hoops to comply with state/federal laws on casual employment
--etc.
I stand by my original claim that this guy is simply willing to take more risk of getting caught than most people, but it's just a matter of degree. EVERYONE is a tax cheat.

So those of us that go 75 in a 70 shouldn't be critical of someone going 120?
Posted on 11/22/11 at 11:46 am to Tiger JJ
as Nucky Thompson (Boardwalk Empire) said, "We all need to decide for ourselves, just how much sin we can live with"

I think you should be cognizant of the fact that you would go way faster than 75 if you thought you wouldn't get caught. Let's just drop the charade that the 75 crowd is on some higher moral plane and not just in a different position on a spectrum of law-breaking pragmatism.

If the primary purpose of the trip was business, it's legal.

Correct. However, this is why I say that there's a lot of stuff small business owners can get away with that's legal.

Do you really believe there's no moral difference between not reporting a $20 bill you find and purposefully hiding $70,000 in income, or are you just participating in your favorite hobby of bucking conventional wisdom?

At a dinner party Winston Churchill says to his dinner companion, "Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?"
The woman responds, "My goodness, Mr. Churchill. I suppose I would."
Churchill replies, "Would you sleep with me for five pounds?"
She answers, "Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?"
Churchill answers, "Madam, we've already established that. Now we are haggling about the price."

$20 bill? No. But I think the average "upstanding citizen" happily shirks much more than that annually...and not accidentally.
I wonder how many folks in this thread have ever used radar detectors. Doesn't matter how much you are speeding by - you are ACTIVELY seeking ways in which to comfortably break the law.
I'd prefer it if people simply dropped all the moral grandstanding.
None of this is to say the OP isn't incredibly stupid.
