Only on Twitter can we watch a man worth $200 billion negotiate with a man worth $500 million about saving $12 a month.

They're paying $5 or 6 now apparently. Stephen King is on there quite a bit, as are many of the blue check brigade, and most of them use it to promote and/or advertise their work. You're getting a direct line to consumers using it. $20 is honestly a good deal for those types.

Pretty sure it's free right now if you pass the verification process.

I liked Stephen King a lot more before Twitter.

What a bitter, hate filled man.

As someone without a Twitter account. Now that Elon owns it, what's the advantage to having a blue check mark?

Are you allowed to post without it?

Yes, you can post without it.

That's the problem is people signup saying they are God or whomever and there is no way to verify its actually them without the blue checkmark.

I can't find it now but I read an article yesterday when he first proposed it that said there was a current cost.

ETA: Found it. Looks like the current charge is for editing and video posts. Elon is wanting to roll checkmarks into that. My bad.

Considering one of his goals is to reduce the number of bits; wouldn’t this help that process?

Ahh yes. Leave it to a liberal to demand a private company become a non-profit because it impacts their wallet.

Now lets talk legalized theft...I mean, taxes.

That's what he said, but not sure how. You're just going to have more people without blue check marks that don't want to pay 20 dollars a month.

If it was 20 dollar one time fee to get a blue check mark that would be different.

There are alot of things worth a more to most people for 240 dollars a year.

Love Elon's humor!

"Hey Man, how 'bout we split the difference?

After all we're just $12 apart."

”Never get to know your heroes”

Not that King was ever that for me but social media has allowed this to happen to a degree never known to the masses.

How is he demanding? Isn't this how capitalism is supposed to work; King isn't saying Twitter can't charge $20, just that he has no interest in the platform if they do. I get that $20 is less than a pittance to either of these guys, but if folks drop their checkmarks and I can't tell who is real then Twitter will lose me as a user (which is no big loss, but still).

If you have a blue checkmark and you are not monetizing your twitter account, you are doing it wrong.

If you are monetizing your twitter account, you are stealing value from twitter at $20/month.

One of, if not the, biggest social media advertising platforms there is with a broad reach to sell your shite.

King is a fricking loony toon. I’ve read his books for 5 or 6 years, and I bet he averages the name “Trump” 35 times per book

Didn’t have to read anything else. You nailed it. Basically free advertising and the company that pays insane amounts to facilitate it asks for $20 - I’d say thank you in my head and carry on. $240 a year for some of these people is probably a 473737382$3$384&3737% return on investment. Wonder how much Stephen charges for an autograph

I don’t think so. I think they would pay up easily. It’s nothing. They wouldn’t want to post if it weren’t for the blue check mark to prove they are someone.
