I got the Amex Platinum 100K offer in the mail. With a $450 annual fee, how is this a good deal?
Its not the greatest, but not bad.
So you figure $1k in gift cards and other things if that the route you go with the points. $200 in airline credits, $90 towards TSA pre check, and access to lounges.
So actual $$$, you are about $900 ahead after the fee. Not a bad turn and burn IMO.
Is there a code on your registration? Is the spend 3k?
I"m trying to get my hands on one

I haven't seen a $3k spend on an Amex Platinum 100k offer. I think mine was a $10k spend.

There was one going in July... I'm trying to find a code or anything that can get this for me. All I've seen is the screenshot of the offer

I want to say my mailers are 5k, but I haven't gotten one on a couple of months.

The spend is $3K spend within 3 months. It's the Amex Platinum card is the name of it. The $200 in airline fees don't apply to booking fees, but incidental fees such as baggage or change fees. I never have those anyway because I have a Delta Platinum, but I guess it would work on other airlines. I don't fly that much though.
Can't decide if I could justify the cost.

Separate question:
I have the Barclays Arrival World + or whatever it's called. I got it for the 2 points for every dollar of travel for the rewards.
I don't fly a lot for work, and not much for personal either, and not always the same airline, so I thought the flexibility of this to use anywhere was a good deal. However, with their changes coming, I'm thinking of switching.
Looking for the best rewards card with flexibility toward airlines/hotels to switch to. What would the MT do?
I have the Delta Platinum, Sams Club Mastercard, and Kroger Mastercard for groceries currently.

Is there a code on the mailer? shite, I may just call Amex and tell them a friend of mine received the offer and I've been a customer for 8yrs and want the same deal.

There is an RSVP code, is that what you are talking about?

Yeah, is that unique to your account or is a general offer code?

You buy $50 ecerts and use those towards booking your flights.

Yup, I've read a lot of people do that....

If you're looking for travel flexibility, Chase UR cards are always popular.

It says it's unique to my account. Haven't used it yet.

I'm a big fan of the SPG Amex for that since you get great Starwood hotels and they transfer at most airlines 1:1 and give a 5,000 mile bonus if transferring 20,000 points. I actually earn more AA miles with my SPG than I do with my Citi AA card because of that bonus
The only exception is shitty United who is 2:1 from SPG to United miles. SPG is raising their annual fee from $65 to $95 next year but you can get the card for a free year and see if you think it's worth it.
BTW, if you do actually decide to get it, I can send you a link and get 5,000 points for referring you. Figured I'd throw that out there
ETA: Don't mean to come across as recommending it for a bonus, it's a great card. They give 25,000 points to sign up which is 30,000 air miles on most airlines, plus you get Amex service/quality for a cheap fee (used to be at least but they are adding good features). And you can get SPG Gold if you spend $30k a year. Not sure if you've stayed in Starwood hotels but they are some of my favorite. I've used the points to stay all over the world in quality hotels. Points and cash is the best deal if it's available at the hotel you're going to unless you have a boatload of points and then you don't have to pay taxes.

SPG card is not good unless you stay at SPG hotels.

Well no kidding
But it is a great airline/hotel card if you do use Starwood hotels like I said in my above post. They have plenty hotels all around the world and the 5,000 mile bonus to airlines is really nice. Every once in a while there's a bonus to get even more. Recently, I got 30,000 AA miles for 20,000 SPG points.
Did you have a better suggestion for airline/hotel combination? I'm always open to learn of better cards. Personally, I don't like redemption cards for airlines, I like miles. I can get better deals with miles out of Hawaii than points redeemed for cash.

ecert? Is that like a gift certificate for a $ amount with the airline?

Ya, I'm open too.
Once I can apply for a Chase card I will probably pick Hyatt over IHG...I think. I suppose you could piggyback off that one night with points for a multi night stay.
SPG has been pretty good between my wife's points and mine:
Got 3 nights in Manhattan (about $900) coming up for Labor Day, 2 Nights in Bang....wait a minute, looks like a sale. I just might book and cancel my award nights now.
Grande Sukhumvit for $170 a night is better than 10,000 points.
Anywho, ya there's some good value there and lots of hotels to use them at. At all levels of luxury or not.

I check Agoda pretty often for Bangkok. You can find some pretty damn good flash deals. I would save points.
Delta charges $150 to cancel an award ticket. I'm not making a flight, so my question is, do I pay the $150 to get the points back in my account, or just not show up?
On one hand, I feel like I could get more value out of 12,500 points than $150, but I also don't feel like paying $150 for a flight I'm not going on
. I knew I shouldn't have bought the damn ticket and blame my wife, but she has no concept of money.

That's the worst. I don't have any advice for that. My wife has no clue what the points are really worth either, so I'm an island with that sort of thing.
My aversion to canceling any rooms and booking is basicaly this: I'm about to get destroyed replacing my AC so not putting any more money out of pocket just makes me emotionally feel better, even if I am technically losing out on future value.
But this price point on the hotel is making me strongly reconsider.
Looks like after taxes it comes out to 2 cents a point. Not the greatest but the minimum that doesn't make me feel bad.
