Its not just summers. Teachers on average work 180 days a year and you get every weekend off and most federal holidays. That's less than half the year, great insurance, and you can retire at 20 years, full retirement at 30. Wife has a cousin who will be retiring at 52 with full retirement.

That might have been how things rolled in 1960, but it's no where near the reality now.

In any event, the answer to this thread is Jimmy John's manager.

A large percentage of our teachers aren’t worth the residue in the crack of my arse from this morning’s shite.

How did you stumble upon this thread from 2022? Hopefully you're too late and OP has found a career path already.

In the state of Louisiana, you no longer get a full retirement as a teacher at 30 years. New hires (post 2015) have to work until they are 62 to avoid the actuary reduction.

If you had state/teaching service prior to 2011, you can get a "full" retirement (not really full, just not actuarially reduced) at 30 years.

Sales

In your mental health field you could sell:

EHR
Lab (DRUG AND PGX)
Meds
TMS

Are you salary or taking insurance? Mental health can be very lucrative if you have a fee for service model instead of insurance. My group has a MSW who is constantly booked 3-4 months out for worker’s compensation treatment. Testing services are great if you want to avoid burnout from therapy. Mental status evaluations and testing for Social Security Disability also pay well. You need a doctoral level degree in most states to do these but you could partner with a PhD who signs the reports and does a 5 minute interview while you do the mental status report and IQ/memory testing. Those pay almost $400 and take about 2 hours. Lots of ways you could be a service e extender off a PhDs license to generate billable hours at a higher rate than a masters level provider.

Great advice right here. I would absolutely consider going this route and pursuing it asap, especially if you’re planning to eventually have kids.

Thank you all for the advice and suggestions! I actually forgot I made this post lol

My wife and I are currently running our own private practice and are in the process of hiring another counselor this summer.
She is currently pregnant with our second kid and I’ve been able to be spend a lot of time with the family. We are very blessed

I’ve always wanted to “help” people but my current work environment and lack of pay makes me question whether I’m even helping myself/family.

My sister wanted to help people too, working for CPS. It drove her really, really low. She got out to become a nurse.

Maybe focus on relationship/marital counseling? There are always going to be people that cut you checks. I don't think I'd involve anything with kids though. The problem is always the parents, but they just want you to "fix" the kid. One family I know of has 3 kids between 10-14, all three of them on anxiety meds. I wonder what the common theme is.

Lol don’t tempt me. I saw that thread and would consider it if they put one in LA.

They are building a Buccee's a couple exits south of Vero Beach. Some folks have been talking about the possible impact it would have on local wages, because they pay so well.

One guy complained about them and said that they are difficult to work for - they don't allow tattoos to show, don't allow you to sit down while working, and expect you to show up on time for your shifts, or they will fire you.

Damn. This world is going to hell in a handbasket, if those conditions are unreasonable. Looks like they are the Chik-fil-A of the gas station world.
