re: Care to share where your money goes?

I track all of our monthly stuff and build our budget with google sheets...but for this, I just exported the actual transactions from 7/1/208 - 6/30/219 from our accounts and spent an hour or so sorting/classifying/organizing... I know what our budget says we spend, but I wanted to see what it looked like in reality.

What are you most and least proud of?

You spend nearly as much on food as you do on your mortgage?

1. Should have given more to church. We were in transition from one church to another and basically just stopped giving what we usually do.
2. We spend a lot of money on restaurants...but we're pretty intentional about date nights and using that as quality time with our kids...
3. Pretty happy with most of the other stuff. We live in a very nice, 2600 sq ft house in a great school district that we were very intentional about every aspect of purchasing. Under 18% of net on principle, interest, tax, and insurance makes me proud.

Here is my spending breakout...this is percent of total spending 2018/2019 YTD. I haven't looked as percentages as a percent of take home.
RENT 26.4%
AUTO 17.6%
TRAVEL 14.1%
FOOD 12.2%
ENTERTAINMENT 8.8%
SHOPPING 7.0%
ATM CASH 2.7%
INTERNET & TV 2.5%
GIFT 2.3%
GAS 1.8%
FEES 1.3%
PERSONAL 1.2%
OTHER 1.1%
PHONE 0.8%
The travel figure is slightly higher than I expected but not shocked by it. That represents 8-10 trips of some sort annually.
Rent includes all utilities, insurance, fees, etc.

I’ve been going on two international trips annually. Those are the largest contributors. Then, a couple LSU games, a wedding or two elsewhere in the country, weekend travel a few times a year to visit a new place or see family.
I’m generally average one weekend a month where I’m not at home. Typing it out makes it sound like a lot

Thats why I started my little exercise...we are on the go a lot, and I was curious how much we actually spent on travel. A big trip for us is 4 days, and we usually do 2 of those per year. We do quite a few weekend/3 day weekend relatively cheap adventures. PLUS it should be noted that some of those long weekend trips are 'just' visiting family. Our closest family is 2 hours away, and parents are 400-500 miles each in opposite directions.

Utilities - 3.5%
Student Loans - 15.7%
Nanny - 18.8%
Church - 1.9%

Money Market - 15.6%
Cleaners, hair cuts, dog food, Plated, Rent the Runway subsc., baby items (diapers/clothes/etc..), auto insurance & disability insurance, and $500/month of misc make up the rest.
I still end up growing the checking account by about $1,000-$1,400 every month but that's just buffer for the big expenses. Like the $4k my 4Runner needed last week.
$12k goes into our Roths every January from that money market. Other than that, my 401k, her 403b, her TRSL contributions to pension, and her 457 are all pre-tax vehicles.

That made me go check. Daycare for our two kids is over 20% of our after tax income. Highest line item.

Meh... She really loves my son, teaches him Spanish, cleans without us asking (we have bi-monthly cleaners), and cooks me some badass Honduran food every once in a while. That plus the convenience makes it all worth while.
