Would you buy a new car warranty on a 2026 Subaru Outback premium?

I’d never buy Subaru so I can’t help you.
I didn’t know there were enough lesbians around to keep them in business.

I pass on all of the extended warranties (and everything else the Finance and Insurance guy has to offer). It's saved me many thousands of dollars over the years.
If I bought a vehicle with a known history of breakdowns, I might reconsider.
Go to Gemini or ChatGTP and ask it if you should consider an extended warranty on that car. Gemini says that the model is generally reliable, but because "the 2026 model marks a generation refresh with a heavy infusion of new electronics, there are specific, documented early-run issues that may warrant the long-term safety net of an extended warranty." It gives details about the issues.
You get 3/36K overall and 5/60k on powertrain for free. How long you plan to keep the car is a factor. Of course, the price and duration of the extended warranty are huge factors, and you didn't mention them.
One reason I never buy them is that I don't like forking over thousands of dollars today for a warranty that does nothing for me for several more years. What if I hate the car and decide to sell it before then, or it gets totaled in year two? They say you can transfer the extended warranty to a buyer or get a partial refund if you crash it, but there are all kinds of strings, fees, etc. Good luck with that.

Wife wanted an outback (2025 model) we found one in Lafayette a year ago that didn’t have the tariff adder
The only thing I paid additional for was gap insurance. Last time I bought as car new was 2010. Would have been much cheaper from my car insurance company but wasn’t thinking ahead of time.
Their sales pitch on the extended warranty was the UI on the dashboard. And how much it would cost to replace.

I have never bought one before, but it does seem with all the electronics in these cars nowadays that something is bound to break and will be expensive to fix

Depends on how long you plan on driving it.

I bought an aftermarket warranty on my F-150 when the factory went out, and it paid for a brand-new transmission ($10K) when it failed. I felt it starting to slip and went ahead and purchased the warranty. They make you drive it for 1k miles and 1 month before you can make a claim. As soon as I reached that I brought it in and they replaced. Cancelled the policy after that and only ended up paying 2 monthly payments on the policy.

I’ve never bought an extended warranty but I’ve driven Japanese cars since I was 16.
I recently got a F150 so yeah…I bought one. Went to one of those online Ford dealers that sells them online to get me 6 years or $100k miles.

I've never bought extended warranties.
If I couldn't self insure through any repair I wouldn't buy the car.
I listen to Clark Howard a lot and he often mentions how many consumer complaints he hears about warranty companies not paying out or being unresponsive. Only one's I'd ever consider are form manufacturer not a third party ever.
