Money Board,

I have been a long time lurker of this board so I am seeking some input.
I have a roll over IRA (traditional) from a previous employer 401k and also my personal Roth IRA. Currently my roth is in VFIAX and my roll over is just sitting in the money market fund as it just got transferred so I need to pick a home for it. I am 27 years old so I will not be touching this for a long time, both accounts total about 100k. Also I plan to continue to max my Roth IRA every year. So which funds should I select?

I'd look for anything that is still beaten down due to covid. Last recession, I did very well buying Vanguard financial stock ETF's after the sub-prime meltdown.

I avg’d 13.8 for 14 years using Index 500, Explorer Fund, and International Growth only

But the last 13 years or so have been very good

You might want to wait for the imminent correction due this next calendar year

If you have 100K you can buy into VITAX
It has been very (very) good to me

I prefer Vanguard ETF's and would use VTI. Has been very good to me.

VTSAX is a little light on small/mid for my taste, and the lack of international holdings isn’t ideal IMO, but you can do much worse if you’re just buying one fund.

As someone that already holds VTSAX in a vanguard account, what funds would you suggest to add to get exposure to small/mid and international?

VSS has international small and mid. VXUS is total international stock market ETF, basically the international version of VTSAX in ETF form. VO and VB are mid and small USA ETFs.

Eta- VTSAX is like 19% mid and 6% small, which is reasonable for a total index, but light for my personal taste.

I have been investing with Vanguard for for 34 years. I would suggest that you begin to learn as much as possible about investing. Two good sources of information are The Independent Advisor for Vanguard Funds which is a newsletter. The second is Paulmerriman.com. There are several rules that you can help you as an investor. The first is that the total stock market will eventually always go up. When the stock market “crashes” , do not sell your stocks. This is the time to buy stocks. Good luck!
