People just live with car notes for a lifetime
It really is interesting behavior. It seems like people have come to live with a car payment in perpetuity be just a regular part of life. My last truck made it 17 years and only had to move on because it was broken into and vandalized trying to steal to where insurance totaled it rather than pay to repair. Hoping this truck lasts 17 more.

Is it a ticking sound? Could be the notorious lifter.

You should post a throwaway email.
Somebody might hit you up.

Most people don’t want to own a vehicle half that age. The tech, safety, and comfort features have greatly improved.
For people that spend a lot of time in a vehicle, I can totally understand why they would want a newer vehicle. There is value outside of “it just gets you from A to B” even if that’s going to be the tone from much of the MTB.
Is an expensive vehicle great for financial improvement…absolutely not. But, there’s more to life than just a net worth balance.

I couldn’t imagine driving a 17 year old vehicle as my daily driver.
I’ve bought 10 cars and trucks the last 17 years

New car is nice and there is something to be said for that. I thoroughly enjoy my 2021 Genesis the last 3 years. Driving it is my daily therapy session.
In your scenario, I wouldn’t sell and buy new. You still owe too much and 2017 isn’t that old. You should be able to easily get 200,000 miles. You’d be better off putting a few thousand into it to fix any issues and driving it another 4 years. If it improves your experience, drop $400 a year on a thorough cleaning and wax. You’ll feel like you are driving a new car for a few months each year.
In the interim, start putting a few hundred aside each month in a high interest account. This is your new car fund to start looking for good deals 3-4 years down the road.

I don't drive much-- I work from home. I think if I put many more miles in it would change the value prop. As it stands I look at what I'm dumping into the truck note every month and do the math on how that would do for retirement and I weep a little.

I’m in my car all day and drive around 40k miles per year. The new tech and safety features are nice. Love having all the 360 degree cameras and auto pilot features.

What kind of noise?
I'd dig into that warranty more, bc you make it sound like a powertrain issue, which id think is covered.
That service department might be trying to frick you.

I’ve been on websites and can’t get the note below $775.
So you’re the dipshit that dealerships negotiate w by monthly notes.

Pay off your used truck before going deeper in debt. You are about to embark on a Neverending journey of ever growing car payments if you start rolling negative equity into auto loans. Don't do it. Probably a top 3 reason people remain poor and can't accumulate wealth.
This. So your truck is “making noise.” Spend a little money and get it fixed vs buying a new truck. You are using the “noise” to justify buying something shiny and new.

You owe 34k on it and it you bought it 6 years ago. Boy did you get fricked. I would say you cannot afford the new Tundra, but that doesn’t stop most people.

What kind of bozo would be looking to upgrade vehicles while 30k in car debt already

Have you talked to anyone about your vehicles extended warranty?

The simple truth
It will be cheaper to pay repairs on current truck, than to get a new truck.
You had a life decision handed to you, just live with it and wait for the next gen Tundra in several years.
Money saved is so much more important, than feeling the rush of "new".
