Splendid job of actually doing something, and not just complaining at clouds and politicians.
Before I go to bed on weekdays I put it on parish government access tv to check if a city council meeting is being aired. If so I keep it on while doing personal computer work. Its my late night comedy show....I love watching characters bitch and moan at the podium about government matters.

Got something in the mail today and apparently they are going to a new 3rd party administrator (probably a fallout of the hacking event). It claims expanded investment options but feels like fewer to me. Pretty much all of the Vanguard funds will map to either US Equity Index or International Equity index. Hopefully these are still vanguard funds with vanguard expense ratios.
These options are horrible with the new 3rd party service. Basically just 2 funds worth a shite...START US Equity Index Portfolio and START International Equity Index Portfolio. Everything else is capital preservation/bonds or a target date fund. Very disappointing.

I'm just angry there are separate accounts and logins for College and K12
So aggravating

Not great investment options and the expense ratios seem high. I can’t recall exactly but from I remember seeing US Equity was either .50% or .75%.
I actually like the new dashboard and separate logins for College Savings and K12. Just seems easier having them separate for me.

Anybody know what the rules are for accessing the matching “Enhancement” fund? Is it only allowed after the main account is drained?

Found this on the new funds:
That’s a relief.
Has a similar question about the two separate accounts. One for contributions and one for the enhancements.

Annualized investment costs on assets per Portfolio range from approximately 0.01% - 0.05%. The START Saving Program has no commissions, loads, or sales charges, and does not charge Account Fees or Management Fees for the period ending August 31, 2027.

I can’t find expense ratios on these new funds. Anyone able to find them?

been doing a 529 for both of my daughters since a couple months after they were born.
Its like 2 car payments per month going into them. Grandparents also contributed.
After 16 years so far its a pretty good chunk with the market gains.

quote:One question that I think is worth asking. Are you investing in retirement accounts for you and your wife? IMO, that takes priority over a 529. You very well may be, but I wanted to ask since you said you were not very experienced.
Several have suggested I setup a 529.

I got tripped up on this as well.
Directions on the letter are not clear.
After clicking login, underneath username and password, under the Start Enrollment, there is a hyperlink at the very bottom that you have to click on that says:
Web register an existing account
^which is not on the letter with the instructions.
Another PIA with this site (as well as the old one) you can’t schedule one time contributions ahead of time. Only option for one time contributions are next day.
Kind of annoying and inconvenient you can’t schedule one time contributions besides next business day.
