Did Drew Brees have any ties to the area before coming to the Saints?
no, but by the time he was a guest picker representing the area, he had been here a few years and established himself as part of the community.

Who is Duke playing Saturday? I would rather have Coach Will Wade.

Because that's usually how they do it.
But not always.
How about give Zion a chance.

Not sure what that has to do with anything. How many professional athletes play in their hometown? Did Drew Brees have any ties to the area before coming to the Saints? He's beloved in this state.
I agree he's beloved in the state, and he's also been amazing to and for the state.
But, I wouldn't expect Drew Brees to be a Gameday picker for LSU.

Because it already happened 10 years ago, right?

Let’s not forget that coach O supposedly offered him a football scholarship.

So we have to give Zion time and then he is worthy?
He's one of the most famous athletes on the planet, getting ready for his first NBA season, and he has taken time out to go to an LSU game, Tulane game, Saints games, and now come rep the state as guest picker.
You people are truly nuts.

He's a New Orleans Pelican
Until he's traded or leaves like the last superstar. That's a business. His college team is Duke and ours is LSU. That shite doesn't change. I stand by what I said. He's always going to be a Duke Blue Devil. he won't always be a New Orleans Pelican.

The fact that Zion hasn't played one single game for the Pelicans
He will have 2 games by saturday

and has zero ties to LSU
This is true, but you don't need ties to a school to represent their brand and the state of Louisiana

doesn't exactly seem exciting, especially for those of us who give zero fricks about the NBA
We have one of the most iconic young players EVER, across any sport, coming to LSU, likely to support our team (since he's already been to an LSU game to support us) and represent our state. How does that not excite you?

Don't the pickers typically have an affiliation with the home team?

I didn't remember that happening.
Maybe this kind of thing happens more than I realize. I always thought the picker had a tie to the school.

Because that's usually how they do it. Pick an alum or super fan with celeb status who has ties to the school and/or some strong connection.
There is an enormous overlap between fans of LSU and the Saints, especially now that the Saints have established a winning tradition ... and because the Pels landed a generational talent, a large portion of that overlap will extend to the Pelicans... of course there are exceptions, old timers like myself know there are a bunch of yokels who loved LSU but didnt acknowledge the Saints.. now that has mostly eroded, and Zion is every bit as logical a choice to be guest picker as Drew Brees was in 2009, when he did it.

Nope

Another reason why people don't like this is because the NBA sucks and Louisiana doesn't care about it.
Then why do the Pelicans have more season tickets sold than most of the other NBA teams?
You're wrong. Dead wrong.
