The assistant coach they really need was sitting on the A&M bench this afternoon.

This has to be worst passing team in LSU women's basketball history. They even screwed up simple inbounds pass and didn't seem upset about it. I was not impressed w either team in this game.

Actually, this is true. ^^^^^^^^^

But again, I thought the team looked MUCH better than they did before the winter break. They'll get it together. At first I thought there was no chance of finishing above .500 in conference play. Now, I actually think they have a shot. Time will tell.

She makes $700 not $1mm but as I have been saying for some time, while she IMHO can coach at times, the program is in ruins and last year's sec 7-9 record was worst in 15 years and this year will be worse, she is lazy, arrogant and most importantly is setting new 20 year lows for our program, this year or next after we finish in near sec bottom she will be gone and saintsfan and lsualum will be faced with the facts, she was a terrible hire and set us back a long way..as for the A&M assit at, he only wants to be an asstt and as much as I'd like to see it, he does not have a college degree so he won't be hired..so the home ncaa games have acted to cover up her many weaknesses for another few months or so...she will not even make NCAAs this year or next...or if she stays the year after, no talent coming in

There's so much fail in this, it's pointless to address it. Keep living in that fantasy world where Van Chancellor never coached here.

While I'll admit that I'm not completely up to date on the women's basketball team, is it not undeniable that the talent level since Caldwell has gotten here has steadily gotten worse. She seems to be pretty awful at recruiting. I'd say that recruiting is a pretty, big part of college basketball.

Recruiting is basically everything for any college sport.

The biggest problem facing Caldwell is that in the women's b-ball game, there is a very steep dropoff from the top ten players (who all go to Connecticut) to the top 500 (who might be looking to play at LSU if they are interested in playing at all).

No, she isn't producing great results for her salary, but then she has an extremely difficult job. She might have done better if she'd followed Chatman instead of Chancellor.

Lsualum, in the middle of year 4 do you think NC has done an acceptable job? Do you think we will make ncaa this or next year? Is it still Bushs fault?

I remember before LSU made its first final four, they had the most tourney wins without reaching the final four

Then they made the final 4 like 400 times in a row and never advanced

While true, Starkey simply doesn't want to be a head coach or is qualified based on at the time of him leaving LSU for Central Florida, he still didn't have his degree. Maybe he's satisfied those requirements by now but it's simply not in his makeup to be out in front outside of his interim gig at LSU after Pokey's departure to "pursue other opportunities".

This is where your logic is flawed.............and we've been over this NUMEROUS times this season. Nikki didn't inherit an elite program. This was a program that hadn't been to multiple final fours in four years when Nikki arrived. So this idea that she's somehow run the program into the ground is far from the truth. When Van took over the program he had a team that had been to FOUR STRAIGHT final fours and was bringing back an entire starting five made up of seniors. Naturally, they took him to their fourth straight final four. After they left, the program went into a steady decline, remember? Here's what happened....

2008-09 19 wins, 11 losses (10-4 SEC)..lost in second rd of NCAA tourney AT HOME

2009-10 21 wins, 10 losses (9-7 SEC)..lost in second rd of NCAA tourney

2010-11 19 wins, 13 losses (8-8 SEC)..NO NCAA TOURNEY (and he declined the WNIT invite!!!)

In Nikki's first season, she took a team of Van's recruits to this....

2011-12 23 wins, 11 losses (10-6 SEC)...SEC Tournament championship game.....lost in second rd of NCAA tourney

The next two seasons....

2012-13 22 wins, 12 losses (10-6 SEC)...NCAA sweet sixteen

2013-14 21 wins, 13 losses (7-9 SEC)...NCAA sweet sixteen

So, looking at these previous seven seasons, it appears that Nikki is doing a better job than Van did. Stop trying to compare her to Pokey Chatman. Nikki has had to REVIVE the program. Van was given the keys to the Cadillac. Nikki is trying to turn the program back into a Cadillac because Van turned it into a Chevy Malibu.

With all that being said.......NO I'm not happy with how THIS season has gone. But by the same token this season's team is having to deal with the departure of three starters who were SENIORS last season. It was going to be a rebuilding year regardless. This is why I'm not all up in arms over being .500 right now. Do I like it.........? No. But building a program is a process. The one area Nikki appears to be lacking is recruiting. But, that can be rectified rather quickly. CLEARLY she knows her Xs and Os. But she needs more talent in the post. We're fine with our guards for now.

Let me also leave with this...........
On Thursday, the ladies beat Vanderbilt. Where were you secman12 to discuss how WELL the team played? If you had watched that game, the closeness of today's game wouldn't have been a surprise. The team is getting better. I'm not going to tell you to stop criticizing the team when they lose. But don't disappear when they win. Otherwise, it shows you're not a true fan but just a disgruntled individual who doesn't like the current coach and her staff. The team is playing better. How about acknowledging THAT? We play MSU next and that is a very winnable game. Will you post on here if the team wins...................or only if they lose?

You guys always will show your true hand. I knew it had to be more than just Caldwell's results.

You ask does he think we will make the NCAA this year. So that is the standard? Well guess what? She has made the NCAA each year she has been here and progressed once she made it (2nd round and 2 sweet 16s), yet you have been calling for her firing since she has been here. Now that you predict the team will not make the NCAA this year it's now lets fire her for not making the NCAA. A moving goal line by those with an agenda. Who knew?

Just curious, did you call for the firing of Coach Chancellor? Did you or anyone complain about his salary?
