... Herman, the guy who just lost to Navy, and beat the almighty Tulsa Hurricanes on a goal line stand... oh.

Herman did not build Houston. Why give him the job?

Maybe not in a sense of from the ground up, but he's made a mediocre team to what they are now. Here's the HC record of the guy before Herman.
5-7
8-5
8-5

What if in hiring him the current staff stays intact? And he keeps the same "let the position coaches do their job" mentality?

So you're saying the reason we should hire Coach O is because

1. He's good at recruiting
2. He's good at motivating
3. He let's other people do the X's and O's for him.

If that's the requirements here's a list of people that would all probably qualify. Any others on that list you'd be OK with being our HC?

To me, it all depends on what coaches on our staff would stay if coach O gets the gig. If Aranda, DC, JJ, and CR stay, then it is a no brainer. Keep the staff intact and hire the best OC and special teams coach that money could buy. Just my opinion though.

Mascona hit it on point yesterday. If O goes 4-1 or 3-2, he sits atop the B list. After Herman and Jimbo. If he goes 5-0, it's his job.

Kinda what we expect all coaches to do.

You realize that Herman has more wins in 1.5 seasons than Coach O has in 3 full years and 2 interim positions right?

No. He is going to be considered if he finishes this season well. My main question was, does LSU keeping the staff together add weight to considering him? And if so, how much weight?

If CEO does a great job as interim HC and then doesn't get the gig, many fans will lose even more interest in the program as a whole...and CEO will leave the program and recruiting will get gashed! Just watch what is happening to NFL reatings these days...the American public is fed up with insider BS...as I can attest to...you tards that are constantly bashing everyone and everything are playing with fire...some of you "lost boys" will have no where to go and nothing else to do...normal folks with a real life will not be bothered so much...think about it!

Because we went for someone actual HC qualificaitons? Good, we don't need those bandwagon fans anyways.

I feel like people are putting too much stock on winning out this year and forget that everyone expected us to be in playoff contention to begin with. It's like giving a dude the keys to a race car and praising him for not crashing into the wall in the 1/4 mile.

He also has more losses to unranked, out of conference teams than Miles did in 12 years but who's counting?

Who do you think recruited most of these players?
Who was and IS the recruiting coordinator?

quote:

3 years is common initial coaching contract that won't affect recruiting adversely.

I firmly believe that CEO is doing all the things I want a HC to do. And he's doing them with position coaches (outside of Aranda). The players are responding, the fans are responding, the money will continue to come in. He is good for business regardless of what posters want to think about his qualifications.

Everyone can see he is putting the best talent on the field and that they're getting better as a unit. Something we aren't use to seeing.

Exactly, well-stated.
Team came out in Miles fashion and allowed USM to be tied with LSU at 10 going into halftime. What changed? Defense stepped, up, and this IS a good defense to begin with.
What changed? Did that happen before Coach Miles left? Nope. Played down to our competition, and let them play toe-to-toe. Did that happen after halftime Saturday night? That, friends, is change. That is "half-time adjustments"

How many players are being involved in/on the offense. Was that the case just four weeks ago? Talk about recruiting AND utilizing talent. Steve Ensminger has been coaching offensive football for 30 years, despite Cam's incompetence, you don't get jobs in coaching at the highest level without a body of work. After 30 years, you don't think he's accomplished SOMETHING? People grow and change.

Please show me a list of coaches that has a better record than Miles in that stat in the last 12 years. I'll wait.

Yeah, I get that. I know. I guess in a perfect world we would hire a proven, top notch coach and keep this whole staff together, including Orgeron.

Benching Valentine for lack of practice intensity is a big deal for me. I think O can pull this off.

He has to win the job on the field

otherwise you look at his resume, which isn't good.

you honestly think that if we bring in a stud HC, that recruiting will suffer because O didn't get the job???

I realize the guy has a cool cajun accent, but damn. Ease up on the love and try to use a little logic.

Wouldn't that eliminate Herman?

He hasn't had time to build his program and he hasn't reached top 5 level yet.

We are talking about a coach that beat Florida State and Oklahoma in back to back games in 2016. And Herman is recruiting right along with all the top programs with Houston's resources. He is obviously the exception to the rule when it comes to hiring coaches with G5 success.
