I want to hire Todd Grantham. He's had success at Georgia. I don't think Orgeron was ever a true DC, if I recall correctly.
We aren't a 3-4 defense so that would take a couple years recruiting and completely different philosophy for our players to adjust too if we want immediate success next year

force a new HC to keep Chavis on as DC or pay HC money to a DC that was no longer coaching for the school

How many national titles did LSU get with Chavis?
How many national titles have been won without Chavis?
Think there are quite a few consecutive national titles that have been won where Chavis was not their coordinator. Hire the right guy and things will be fine. LSU has had a strong defense without him before.

There are two possible reasons he left IMO. 1. miles wanted him out. 2. Alleva is an incompetent piece of shite.

I'll believe vegas4LSU and BillJ over any official report!

the fact that he's butthurt with a school that gave him raises equivalent to $1 million dollars over contract language, then tanked his bowl game, told his players with one foot out the door, let the HC and admin "pitch him one more time" knowing he was gone, and THEN waited till he didn't require a buyout to move to a division rival tells you all you need to know about John Chavis.
This. bullshite move. LSU a has been very good to chavis.

Not even mad. Chavis is good but he's past his prime...time for a change.
Signed, Tennessee

To me, the big issue here isn't so much losing Chavis. It's (a) that something is so wrong in the program that a loyal guy like him would want to leave for a lateral position and (b) I have no faith in Alleva to make the next hire.
Unfortunately, the bigger picture may be worse than losing this one guy.
This. Togar tiger has a point. We will rebound from losing Chief. I just worry about the things that fans don't know anything about.. like how bad is it? How long will it last? When can we move on from the Miles era?? lol Personally, I've never been sold on Miles.. EVER. IMO- we've always won in spite of Miles, not because of him. I don't like his recruiting (issues: character, no depth at some positions and too much at others, too many players leaving early, QB????) Game/clock management, player substitution, playcalling (yes, he still calls a lot of plays), he hires good coaches, but no matter what OC we hire, he oversteps them.

Chavis basically wanted a guaranteed job for the length of the contract or to be paid for not working in the event Miles leaves. frick him.
He earned that right. Miles gets raises for 8-5 seasons

Nope, you missed 3: A guy at the end of his career taking a 21% pay increase.

Chavis was sold as an expert on linebackers. Remember who our starting MLB was the last 2 years...

Yep
He can get fricked

Get Coach O for DC and Dunbar for DL coach, save recruits, get the other top recruits Chavis had on the hook and move on!

Posted on 12/31/14 at 12:47 pm to Galactic Inquisitor
I don't have anything bad to say about Chavis. He did his job well, minus the 7 4th QTR meltdowns.
The issue I have is that the same idiots that let him get away to a in division rival, are now in charge of hiring the replacement. Confidence in them is zero.

Chavis has gone completely off the reservation. This is a career killer for him.
