I mean he was fired for cause from LSU. Why are people so shocked this is getting negative publicity?
Even wilder is LSU held no formal coaching search. There are multiple reasons this is going to get raked over by the media.
True. It is an unusual hire. I can't recall another instance where a school fired a HC because of NCAA violations, for which the coach was sanctioned, only to then rehire him 4 years later. Also, the manner in which it happened was unorthodox. LSU didn't fire their HC until they agreed upon a deal with his replacement.
But if you go just beyond the surface level you find: (1) the genesis of the NCAA investigation that led to Wade's firing, paying players, is now not only "legal", but mandatory. That means there is no recidivism risk. (2) There was only one target to replace McMahon. If he didn't accept, McMahon would remain the coach. However, it is HIGHLY unlikely McMahon was kept totally in the dark. If anything, I'm sure he was informed early in the process that LSU was going after Wade with the (unspoken) hope it would prompt McMahon to leave LSU on his own. That would have allowed LSU to make the change it needed without having to pay McMahon to do so.
Unfortunately, when you are 60-70 and have a .240 conference winning % you don't exactly have a robust market. Thus, McMahon's best financial option was to standby and wait to see if Wade accepted the job.

WW Return to LSU receiving national negativity
IMO, there's only two parts to this story that warrant any negative sentiments:
1) Wade was only at NC State for 1 year. It's not that big of a deal really, but people don't tend to like frequent job hoppers.
2) The negotiations with Wade were clearly ongoing while McMahon was still employed by LSU. While I think his record warranted termination, the whole ordeal clearly gives off the vibes that LSU would have kept him for another year if they couldn't get Wade. It's a shite or get off the pot situation for me. If you want to move on from a guy, move on.
That's it. The whole BS about LSU firing him and then hiring him back. People are trying to frame it as the upstanding, moral, administration that fired him was forced out and replaced with ne'er do wells.
This news cycle will run it's course, and winning solves everything. Same thing with Kiffin. So long as they are both successful, people will easily forget the complaints they had with both hires.

It’s really the college sports writers (Forde, Thammel, etc…) that have just had the strange obsession with Wade since the FBI stuff happened and they won’t let it go.
It's the realization that all of your work and virtue signaling ultimately meant nothing. Wade was out of coaching for a year, had great success, and ends up right back where he left, earning $2.0M MORE per year than when he was fired...all while the sportswriters try to remain relevant in an increasingly irrelevant profession.
It also goes to show that all of the virtue signaling from the media and fans is just noise because there are really just two categories of fans: Those who pretend (or maybe wish) sports is more than just the on-court results, and those who know the reality is winning is ALL that matters (at the pro/major conf. level)

Need Kim Mulkey in there as well. The national hate/dislike for her is tangible.

Look at what the WW hire is being lumped in with. It’s insane.

The media/country would hate Steve Erkel if he accepted an LSU head coaching job.

This is ALL that needs to be said.
It wasn't LSU's responsibility to accommodate their competitor, Ole Miss by not being a distraction during a CFP run...even though LSU was actually willing to accommodate Ole Miss.
It wasn't LSU's responsibility to avoid forcing NC State back into a coaching search a year later.
And it isn't LSU's responsibility to make Alabama, or NC State, or Ole Miss fans like LSU. The only responsibility LSU owes is to IT'S customers (fans)

I think it has already been firmly established that no one really cares about the McMahon angle. He deserved to be terminated.

What gets me is that we were apparently going to keep MM if tPear didn't come.
1. Why would he want to stay (unless no one else is going to hire him)?
2. Why would we let him stay after what he's put on the court the last 4 years?
