He didnt do anything "wrong". Dabo feels like a change is needed to win it all. Clemson plays for championships. Tough decisions are made at every position when you have this mentality.

One must give Dabo some credit for benching him this week and not burning his redshirt.

Nick wouldnt have done that.

He played meaningful snaps all year. He started every game. He got outplayed because he is a turn over machine. Suck it up and fix your mistakes. Word is he was getting outworked too. He is a pansy for quitting on the team and his teammates he has been with over 3 years.

Thoughts?

My first thought is that no team in the nation has benefitted more from QB transfers this offseason than LSU. You can't blame a player for wanting to put himself in the best position for personal success as far as a system and opportunity when you only have a 5 year window to make it happen.

It doesn't bother me. If they want to play and aren't good enough or their talents don't fit the scheme, look for greener pastures.
You only get one chance at life, live it.
You can't please the fans. They leave at half time, boo every mistake, and shite on the players if they think someone else should be playing.

Cream rises to the top, even if it has to find a different vessel to do so. A capitalist society is founded on this, so it should happen. It almost guarantees that every school will get the best possible players, rather than having them riding a bench somewhere. LSU will benefit as much from this as they will be hurt. This year certainly proves that out.

Honestly, as long as the NCAA calims that these are “student” athletes, they should be able to transfer just as freely as regular students.

These are five star atheletes that are playing for their future. Let them go where they want to try to showcase their skills
Give me a fricken break, they are part of the snowflake / Participation trophy generation.

When they actually have to compete they quit and run when things don't go their way.

I'm all for a 4th string QB with no realistic shot of getting any playing time transferring. But transferring just coz you got BENCHED?!?! That seems crazy!

It's not crazy. These guys want to get to the NFL and the only way you can do that is by showing the NFL what you can do on the field. They don't draft players off the bench. They're trying to continue their football career and you can't do that if you don't play. When your starting job gets taken by an immensely talented freshman then odds are you're not getting anymore significant playing time at that school. I don't blame them one bit for transferring in that situation. What I don't agree with is the trash talk after they do decide to transfer. You got beat out...take it like a man and move on.

I don't see it that way and I hate that culture that you're describing more than anyone. Once the competition is lost to a freshman you're kind of screwed. It would be different if you were a sophomore and lost the job to a junior or senior. Those guys are petty when they transfer after that, but when you're already a junior or about to graduate and lose the job to a freshman that is ridiculously talented then you're not going to play much anymore without an injury. If they have a legit shot at making an NFL camp or roster then I don't blame them in that scenario for transferring and trying to do that.

Think of it this way, if you worked at a job for 10 years and then got passed over for a promotion and watched it handed to someone that had 8 less years experience than you wouldn't that make you look elsewhere? Then during that search you found another company that would give you that job you got passed over for, would you go? It's nothing to do with being a snowflake but it's more to do with what is best for you at that time and if these guys want to try to make it to the NFL then they have to move on somewhere else to show what they can do.

Curious to see if Hurts plays this week. He can't redshirt if he does.

Jalen Hurts chooses backup role over extra year elsewhere.

"It also qualifies as one of the most brilliant coaching moves of Saban's career. He has somehow convinced Hurts and his family that, despite losing his starting job he held for two years, it is in the quarterback's best interest to stay at Alabama and backup the phenomenon that is becoming Tua Tagovailoa"

Can't Jalen transfer at the end of the year and be eligible immediately elsewhere?

So you want the guy that got benched to risk his potential to play in the NFL and miss out on millions of dollars?

He got beat out. You think Dabo is going to switch back unless the freshman gets hurt or just completely stinks it up? Negative.

Why ride the pine with a 90% chance you'll never play again, when you can roll to another school, improve, get drafted, and potentially make millions.

Its not being a snowflake, it's common damn sense.

Sure

And he’s also 2 seasons of good plays from finishing his career riding the bench.

Or playing like 3 quarters for a sprained ankle.

Dabo did what’s best for Clemson and this kid needs to lookout for himself. It’s a business decision on both sides and people are idiots if they don’t understand it.

He sat on the bench behind Watson for 2 years. It's not as if he decided to leave four games into this 1st season.

Now, he's a Senior and has clearly lost the QB competition to an underclassmen. He could stay at Clemson and redshirt this season as long as he doesn't play another snap the rest of the year. But if he's lost the job now to a Freshman, it's pretty unlikely he's going to win it back by staying another year. Also, if he plays in just one play the rest of the season he's ineligible to transfer and his career ends at the end of the season...as a backup on the bench.

Transferring now means he saves his final year of eligibility and can go compete for a job at a new place that hasn't already demoted him.

It would be one thing if he was a Freshman or Sophmore and got benched in favor of an upperclassman. It's another when you're a Senior and get benched in favor of an underclassman

Have you ever played college football? If so, were you ever benched?
