They are playing minor league football to hope to play in the NFL.
The rules allow them to leave.

Curious to see if Hurts plays this week. He can't redshirt if he does.

It not a new trend.

Leaving mid season is new bc of the new redshirt rule. It's going to be interesting how coaches manage this going forward

Yeah. I don't have a huge problem with the kids transferring. It's part of the rules. But I guarantee the NCAA didn't have kids jumping ship in the middle of the season in mind when they created the rule.

And the Clemson kid leaving is a bad look to me mainly because he decided to kick dirt on Clemson on the way out the door. Being benched was a "slap in the face"? And you weren't given a fair chance? GTFO with that bullshite.

If you are going to do your thing and move on, then fine. If you want to be you and disappoint the other 100 kids who are trying to win a title, that's ok too. Just keep your sorry-arse comments to yourself.

Like Saban is stringing along Hurts (just in case Tua gets injured).

I have had plenty of people tell me I'm wrong but it sure seemed like that's what he did. I have always respected Saban as a coach, but that was really shitty. Hurts' decision is his decision, but it sure seems like Saban's not announcing a starter had a lot to do with him now riding the pine instead of starting elsewhere.

The trend started years ago when players who graduated in 3 years, started transferring to schools that offered a masters program that wasn't offered at the school they played at for 3 years. Because they didn't have to sit out a year, they took advantage of using that last year to go play somewhere that would give them a better opportunity. Russell Wilson did it, he was at NC State then played his last year at Wisconsin.

Coaches are able to up and leave one school to go to another school that is a better opportunity for them, why shouldn't players be able to?

It's not JUST BECAUSE they get benched. If they are not able to contribute at one place, but there is opportunity for them somewhere else, why is it a big deal if they leave and take advantage of that opportunity?

You see it more this year with older kids who maybe never redshirted before. But to prevent this you just let everyone play four games as a freshman and then they won’t have the option later on. It’ll be just like before where you gotta sit out if you transfer and you just lose a year.

What's crazy is, Lawrence is phenomenal. Bryant is a good qb and brings a different element to the game but Lawrence is by far a better/more accurate passer. Some of the throws I've seen him make, some pros can't make.

Transfer just coz you got benched?!?!? Not liking the precedent this is setting. You look at the 2 QBs from LSU that transferred before the season...it seems like the "compete for the job" mentality is disappearing fast. They want to play and play now. Thoughts?

You try busting your arse like these players are doing only to realize you will never play meaningful snaps. See how long you stick around.

Don’t blame him at all. Coaches lie to kids all the time to tell them what they want to hear to get them to sign. If Saban retires and Alabama offers Swinney, you think Dabo is going to stay at Clemson even if he told those players he recruited that he would be there coaching them their whole careers. Dabo will be gone as soon as he gets that offer from his Alma Mater. Players should leave too if they are suppose to be fine sitting on the bench.

Kelly Bryant was a senior. Dude competed for 4 years and paid his dues. The writing is on the wall the freshman was just better. If the team can move on why can't Bryant.

Be 20. Have just 4 years to play. Seems logical.

Same people who kill themselves for a company but wont play with their kids type attitude....

Jalen Hurts chooses backup role over extra year elsewhere.

"It also qualifies as one of the most brilliant coaching moves of Saban's career. He has somehow convinced Hurts and his family that, despite losing his starting job he held for two years, it is in the quarterback's best interest to stay at Alabama and backup the phenomenon that is becoming Tua Tagovailoa"

Saban named Tua the starter after week 1 so Hurts has had 3 weeks to make his decision. Dabo strung his decision out 3 more weeks.

Agree or not, I understand why the players transfer. But I can’t blame the coaches either, so long as they are being honest in the process. . They need multiple QBs and should be doing everything they can to build and maintain the best roster possible.

Hurts could redshirt this year and still have a year of eligibility after Tua leaves
