This is probably a thought that is running through every Louisiana born and raised Alabama fan out there.

Hell NO! A 75-year-old man starting again? Absolutely ludicrous, IMO.

Right! The only reason he retired was the now level playing field.

Now that NIL is a thing, no

Saban got soft as he aged. Last few years was different. Impressive record either way

You’re asking a fan base who argued for years that Les Miles was better than Saban.

AS a fan base, there was not a large percentage who argued Miles was a better coach than Saban. But my memory is pretty questionable these days

From 07 until the debacle in 2012 there were. Better win %, title games etc., plus the anger about Saban were the arguments and “reasons”. I didn’t say it was rational but it was definitely a thing.

This idea is stupid. Part of the reason Saban retired is because the entire landscape of college football has shifted with NIL and the transfer portal. Handing out free Dodge Chargers doesn't work anymore. It's an entirely different world now.

Correct. Too old to come back as HC. I'm a Saban like "No Mediocrity" guy and I'd love to have him back at LSU as Athletic Director. (Not a fan of McWoodward for multiple reasons and I'm off the BK bandwagonr for his letting the OL situation deteriorate past the point of acceptibility; in both Coaching and Personnel)

Not a chance. As I get older, I realize how lucky I am to have seen these national championships with my dad. I was ecstatic about the one in 2003. The others are just cherries on top. I don’t know how many years he has left, but I want to win another while he’s still around now.

I heard guys saying Les should be fired as I was walking out of the Arkansas game in 07.

All that is true but he started at a better place. He was a good coach, IMO. Saban was on another level than pretty much everyone.

There were some. I probably made some of those arguments myself when dealing with a few people who were denigrating ole Les back then. But it was more to stoke them up. I know you know what I'm talking about

Personally, I think there is really no need to do that type of comparison but it seems to be a part of athletics.

It's hard to say how the landscape would have ended up if Saban had been successful in the NFL, but if he never comes back to the SEC, Les would probably be thought of a little differently despite his occasional lapses. I think he wins at least 1 more natty, probably a few more. But the I doubt we ever get JB, and that would have been a shame.

You’re right and I probably should’ve contextualized “fan base” better. It’s like when we talk basketball about 60+% of the people who do discuss the topics are McMahon fans but if you walk down the street and ask it’s more like 20-30% so that’s my bad using “fan base” without specifying that I meant the people going back and forth on the Miles vs Saban discussions back when.
