There's bad blood between LSU and the SEC that probably goes way beyond all this eligibility talk.
Are you saying this incident has created a bad blood, or that there was pre-existing blood? If the latter, what is the history?

"If we win on Thursday, those guys are playing. I would not even conceive of anything otherwise unless the SEC Commissioners vote 15-0 to say Trinidad Chambliss is ineligible."
Comparing Trinidad Chambliss to the 5 for 5 fiasco is similar to comparing Apples to Oranges. Whether I like the restraining order that gave TC the 6th year is irrelevant to the athletes that lost a 5th year because of an arbitrary decisions in June that they were unaware of when they were seemingly out of eligibility in January.

Kiffin only said he would comply w SEC if TRO is overturned. What if TRO is upheld? If TRO is upheld the SEC may continue to push the envelope to another level. Then what? LSU gets kicked out of conference? Probably not. LSU sanctioned by other members of SEC? Probably. Assuming no other teams in SEC can sign these guys then I'm o.k. with that and so should LSU powers that be IMHO. Kiffin needs to just let this play out and shut the frick up! Let the people in charge of LSU athletics make this call. Can anyone say "de-escalate" and mean it w good intentions. I doubt it. This will come back to haunt LSU for years to come if these guys join the team. The SEC will do everything in their power to make sure of that. I'm changing my pussy vote. I'm de-escalating/punting. Long live the King. Huzzah!

Funny thing to read on an internet messageboard.

I'm saying there was probably something that has been simmering for a while. You don't get reactions like this over something that doesn't frick with someone's bottom line. This isn't solely about eligibility and what constitutes being under contract when words like expulsion come up. This is pretext.

Please, this isn't about brand envy and a perception of LSU's perceived potential. In things like this, follow the money because if this was only about some players that are essentially second team all conference types at a position where you also have a second team all conference player coming back.

You are correct. However, I use Chambliss as an example of something less sympathetic than the instant case.
Chambliss graduated high school in 2021 and was given 5 years. Under the old rules (play 4 with a redshirt) or the new rules (play for up to 5 years) he was clearly out of eligibility. He then argued that he should get an extra year because in one year he missed some games due to tonsillitis. This was when he was at Ferris State. Ferris State refused to make that application (which is required) but Chambliss went to court anyway and got a TRO.
What did the SEC do? Did they call a meeting of ADs? Did they threaten expulsion? Did they act like the world was ending? No they did not. They said, “There’s nothing we can do here. We have to abide by the court order.”
Fast forward to the Pyburn suit. The class of 2022 players are far more sympathetic than Chambliss. They were arbitrarily denied a 5th year that was granted to every other high school class, which was incredibly dumb by the NCAA. And then the SEC tried to step in after every court that looked into it and sided with the players and said, fine you can play but not if you were ever in the NFL. And then they made an exception that even if you participated in the NFL you were ok but only if you didn’t sign a short term (or any) free agent contract. This is another arbitrary line that doesn’t address the initial problem the NCAA created by not giving these players a choice. This SEC rule only punishes the class of 2022 players who it can fairly be said WOULD HAVE HAD (BUT WERE DENIED) A LEGITIMATE DECISION TO MAKE. This is why the SEC is going to lose on Thursday.
And so the SEC and the 15 other programs who accepted the Chambliss bullshite TRO on the basis that they have to comply with a court order are going to have to do the same thing here with Wright and Harris.

I'm hoping that is EXACTLY the return on investment LSU and its donors are looking for from their investment of tens of millions of dollars in the program. Throughout history of college football there have been plenty of "Big Bad Wolves". Generally the thing they had in common is they won, at lot, which turned all of the losers against them (see, most recently Alabama during the Saban years).
It is apparently extremely difficult for fans and media alike to comprehend this one simple fact...LSU, nor Kiffin, are parties to this litigation. It is being brought by players challenging the NCAA rules prohibiting their eligibility to play this season.
Now, lets not be naive. LSU and Kiffin are definitely parties interested in the outcome of the litigation because there are some players involved with connections to Kiffin who would choose to play for LSU if legally allowed to do so. It's also no coincidence the action was brought in East Baton Rouge Parish. But LSU is not actively aiming to defy a court order. It is simply interested in the outcome of the legal proceedings and will operate accordingly.
It's the SEC and other conferences who hastily passed a retroactive rule to deny access to the college football market of the players who received the initial favorable court ruling. That is direct collusive activity coming very close, if not crossing the line of anticompetitive behavior..which could bring about antitrust litigation drastically tearing the fabric of the SEC and NCAA as we know it.
As usual, the SEC and NCAA weren't proactive and they have created yet another shite-pile as a results. That is their fault. Not LSU's. But in the end why should LSU or LSU fans give even the slightest of shits what the media, other coaches, and fans of other schools care? NONE would cry the first tear if LSU were losing football games as "likeable losers". But LSU fans sure would.
