I know it was hot, Ehlinger is good, horns have athletes, and the offense had a couple moments to drive the final nail in, but I’m a bit nervous about what I saw. Maybe an aberration, but I hope this isn’t an issue going forward.
Yes, there was a plethora of holds by UT.

What say you?

The defense is still good and they will get better. The new offense is going to lead to the defense giving up more yards and points. They were on the field for 80+ plays last night.

One thing I thought about after the game is we have 2019 version of Texas A&M teams under Kevin Sumlin. We have a high powered offense that can score quickly and doesn’t give the defense much time to rest. We passed the ball 39 times last night averaging 12.1 yards per play, we ran the ball 29 times for a 3.9 yards per play. LSU ran 68 plays, Texas ran 85 plays. Almost 20 more plays per game will cost the defense’s ability to maintain their level on intensity.

Defense was very good until the 19 play drive at the start of the 3rd quarter. The fast pace of our offense would be very detrimental if they were not scoring so often. I am not worried about either offense or defense unless injuries pile up.

I cant get over the holding. I dont think every team does it like that. They had very good technique and get away with it last night. The game shouldnt have been close. You arent aupposed to get that much time to throw that ehlinger did.

A little bit

It was one game and I seem to remember the 2011 defense giving up 530 yards to West Virginia that one time.

Lack of any pass rush when we rush 4 or fewer does concern me.

Also waiting to hear how bad the Lawerence and Logan injuries are.

We rushed 4 and kept Ehlinger inside the pocket. We did very little stunting upfront and not much blitzing either. We had success when we did though. This defense is still stacked. Delpit, Stingley, Fulton, Divinity, Phillips, Queen, Chaisson, Lawrence, Shelvin. Last night had more to do with our defensive game plan than being out manned by Texas. It was obvious we tried to contain Ehlinger and keep him in the pocket as much as possible, which was frustrating as hell, but it forced him to throw it into coverage than take off for 30 yards.

We are not going tackle that poorly all season long. That was absolutely dreadful. I’m not worried.

It's a DL thing and we have been thin there for a while now. That seems to be getting addressed with this class.

Not having Ika on the field just added to it. I hope that this won't be a problem when we go against the other teams to come.

Mostly because they couldn’t stop Texas in the second half.

The defense will be fine but as far as holding goes we were mugging Texas just as bad if you paid attention. The refs just let both sides play.

It's a DL thing

This is so much bigger than folks realize. If the Dline can get pressure on QB then the DBs have a much easier night.

The 2011 defense for the ages was torched for upwards of 500 yards by Geno Smith and WVU. That was the best defense in school history, arguably.

The shite just happens sometimes. Ehlinger is a hell of a QB. Our DBs missed some assignments and tackling was suspect at best. Their WRs will play in the NFL. We had extra bodies ready to contain Ehlinger, and all but completely removed Johnson from the passing attack. That made Texas adjust and forced Ehlinger to try and beat us from the pocket throwing to secondary targets... and he almost did beat us passing.

When even Chaisson comes out praising Ehlinger after all that trash talk, it's pretty safe to say Texas' offense is damn good.

I think this game was a wake up call. I have a feeling they will be out to prove themselves again.

I am concerned that our DC is so conservative. He has always played a bend but don’t break defense. Last night Texas drove into our territory on all but maybe 2 drives in the first half which didn’t help our guys out in the second half. If our front 4 is pressuring the qb it’s ok to play conservative but if the qb has all day that just makes our back 7 run more.

We need to take advantage of our secondary talent and put more pressure on the qb with our front 7 causing more sacks, tfl, and bad throws by QBs. I would much rather be aggressive and occasionally give up a busted play than have our guys get worn out on long 19 play drives. Last night our guys were done mid 3rd qtr.

Yes. I was shocked at how poorly they played and how poorly Aranda coached them last night.

Spot on, and many don’t realize this. If we had 2-3 interceptions nobody would be talking about the defense.. ellinger would have ran for 180 yds if no backer was in the middle spying him...

The holding was the frustrating part because there would have been 4-5 sacks (possibly killed drives) had there not been so much holding. I’ve rewatched the game 4 times today and counted 14 MAJOR holds. 9 the dlineman was taken to the ground... only thing I would have asked more of... was stunts. And I think in hindsight aranda would agree... we relied on the strength of our DBs. That’s good coaching. Play to your strengths..
