Pelini is the Les Miles of defensive game planning and half time adjustments.

Miss State seems to avoided the consequences of Covid.
Their QB/ WR combination seems to have gelled just fine.

Yes, but their offense is about as complicated as my 3rd grade math homework. They were going to have the most prepared offense coming into the season from the simplicity alone.

We still shouldn’t have lost, but don’t compare our offense to Miss St in this debacle of a year. This was their perfect storm.

None of the other powerhouses dazzled either.

and they did an awful job of trying to find open space when MB was scrambling.

Last year when Burrow scrambled the receivers bailed him out. When MB scrambled he had nothing coming back to him. He did not help himself either by knowing when to tuck it and run for positive yds

Todd Harris set the standard for laziness on Saturday. That play is the one that sums up our effort on Saturday. If he wasn’t running at 5:00 this morning we are doing it wrong. My HS coach would have put me on blast, let alone somebody as talented as Todd with legitimate NFL aspirations at this level.

I look at it like this.

Any time in previous games that Harris was on the field, we usually noticed, because the opposition threw his way, with great success.

I don't think coverage is his strong point, so that leaves playing actual safety. Just don't let anyone get behind you and knock a man down at least when you are the last man standing. Or maybe even just slow him down.

I read all the correctable mistakes part, but when the opposing team gives you a pick six, another pick, and the QB fumbles twice behind the LOS, and you lose at home by double figures to a team that has beat you twice in 20 years, that just ain't gonna cut it.

Playing a smaller school i.e. Georgia State as the first game would point out a lot of these mistakes and allow time to correct before conference play.

WE lost 14 guys to the NFL

Ok? We have had top 5 draft classes nearly every year for the past 5 years so there is no lack of talent coming in behind those guys.

Bama and Clemson lose tons of guys to the draft every year too but somehow they're able to compete for championships every season. Of course it's expected that we would take a couple steps back from last year but what we saw saturday was totally unacceptable. A markedly less talented team came onto our home turf and wore us the frick out. Not to mention they were implementing a new coach and a totally new scheme so they had even more of an excuse than we did...

Accurate, but I still put this one on Pellini's scheme more than anything else. Gotta be able to adjust at halftime.

You dont say???

So the the True FR backups in Game 1 aren’t comparable to the possible Herman Trophy candidate / Top 3 NFL draft pick? Truly disturbing!!

Based on what we’ve seen of Harris, he might want to actually use that talent if he wants to make the NFL.

He is.... not good.

Ricks looked a few times to just rely on physical ability that he could get away with before. Stopping on the route thinking he could get the pick was a perfect example. He will realize he is in the sec now and will be a lockdown guy. If anything, seeing him in person has me excited about him being opposite of Stingley. Stingley's leadership was missed at least as much as his coverage ability - probably more.
