It's a travesty that we couldn't win a NC with Carly and Allie. We had two pitchers who could dominate opposing batters, but we couldn't get it done at the plate when it mattered, despite having Landry, Bell, Jaquish, Simmons, etc.

Those teams were full of warriors and hard-asses. They were competitors and weren’t afraid to trash talk. Bell was the last really intimidating hitter we have had. It’s a shame the Torina-Dobson-Leftwich triumvirate could not win a natty with that group.

We don’t seem to recruit players like that anymore. I don’t know if it is intentional—I wouldn’t be sure the reason why, but I’ve heard whispers about this the last couple years—but the emphasis seems to be on recruiting “cute” petite players rather than the warriors and hard asses that we used to get and that the Oklahomas, Floridas, and other teams get that constantly show up in OKC.

Yeah I would certainly not call her mediocre. IMO our softball program has continued to be what it was under the prior HC…. Good, but not great.

Beth seems to recruit well. The problem seems to be that players who were absolute monsters at the plate in high school, suddenly can't hit once Dobson gets his hands on them.

Gasso will not leave OU. From what I hear from my sauces, she will retire in a year or two and is just trying to set it up for her son and assistant coach to take over.

If you create a crappy acronym and then have to spell it out in order for people to understand it, I’d say you are the mental moron so STTBD.

I am under the impression that the entire softball program has taken on an "us against the world" mentality. Outsiders have no impact on this program. They are a tight knit organization that hear nothing negative. They will simply continue to exist as the program that they are

There is definitely a “circle the wagons” mentality in the softball program you don’t see in other sports. The LSU softball FB page is toxic. After every loss, coaches’ relatives are on there attempting to whitewash things. Players’ parents are on there casting blame on each other’s children. And no, Beth will not fire her buddies and seems to feel she’s untouchable.

And while this is not Beth’s fault, I think it’s still symptomatic of the state of the program: for a long time, you could google “LSU softball.” The first question popping up among the trending questions being googled nationally was “Who’s the loudmouth guy behind home plate?”

Even though he no longer attends home games because apparently they won’t let him sit behind the plate without a ticket, nationally DS is still the “face” of the program.

Yes, it’s time for an entire culture change in the softball program.

I am all for coaches creating whatever "culture" they want in their programs, but lately it seems the culture of this team is more akin to a church camp and not a high-level division one softball program.

I've said it before on here but there is absolutely no reason why this team should not be performing up to the top 5 salary Beth is earning every year. From big game fan support to facilities and the LSU brand, Coach has woefully underperformed the resources available to her. The brand is bringing in top recruits but this staff clearly can't do anything significant with them once they are here. Time to move on.

you are not wrong and you can thank lindsey leftwich for that.

I have dealt with this staff since 2012 from when britney mack was a pitching coach for one of my girls all the way to camps to trying to get girls recruited.....whoever said this staff is a circle the wagons type staff is dead on correct. they are tight. real tight. they are in a bubble. i still see and talk to aliyah andrews every now and then as my girl gets lessons from her. i will see what i can find out from her perspective of the program.

scott is about to pop that bubble. it is past time.

I came across her Instagram last year or so. Surprised the hell out of me. Super bizzare baptisms and the such. Program is a mess and only getting worse. My daughter also has lessons with Andrews, never thought to pick her brain on the mess there currently tho.

Well, you made me go look for it and yeah, I see what you mean.

People can be whatever religion they want and practice it how they want, but every indication seems to be that a lot of the emphasis is on “converting” players and not winning championships. Especially with the verbiage, “we get distracted by wins and losses, and not what’s really important.”

I now see what you guys mean with this “church camp” terminology. And again, I respect peoples’ religion. But will this culture dissuade recruits who are not hardcore christian fundamentalists?

If Leftwich wants to be a hardcore Billy Graham-evangelist, she should do it full-time. She may get that opportunity after this season. But yeah, the evidence points to this staff looking at the players as potential converts first instead of players to be coached and developed.

Yes, I have to agree with a previous poster that this program is a mess and badly needs a housecleaning and a culture change.

Yeah, Beth has let this once proud program slip into mediocrity. 11 years under Girouard: 2 WCWS appearances 2 seasons ended in super regionals 6 seasons ended in the regionals 1 season did not qualify 11 years under Torina: 4 WCWS appearances 3 seasons ended in the super regionals 3 seasons ended in the regionals 1 season was cancelled by the virus

Nice straw man.

It’s not a Torina vs. Girouard conversation. It’s whether Torina and her coaching staff can position LSU to win the SEC and WCWS.
