She would be a great ambassador for LSU along with being a great coach.

That's cool. Just know that your extra football, men's basketball, and baseball donations and season ticket prices aren't supporting those three sports that actually pay her salary. They're just making you more proud to lose even more money on women's basketball.

why not push it to a revenue generating sport where you can potentially earn on your investment.

Given what is already being invested in the revenue-generating sports, do you really think they would become even more profitable with an extra $2M investment? In WBB (assuming they rise) it will increase LSU’s brand through another currently under-tapped market. Would an extra $2M in football sell more tickets (Ans: no) or increase our visibility (Ans: no)?

When she starts hanging banners, no one will care. Folks love winning...

And that's fine, if the logic is we're willing to lose additional money to win in a sport where winning will never make money anyway.

Just stop with the financial arguments. Fact is the more we spend on WBB, the more money it loses. The revenues are effectively capped. The expenses aren't.

Best example I can ever give you is LSU baseball. Virtually non-existent when I was at LSU. Now probably second most popular sport on campus. That's what winning big does...

LSU football makes BCS bowl next year but has to give it up under title 9 sanctions. So let’s say $30 divided by Kim’s salary. We just bought 10 years plus what revenue Kim brings in. Calm down

That's not how Title IX works, at all.

And it took us decades after hiring Skip to finally turn a minimal profit on baseball (which we still barely cover). And we weren't paying him nearly $3M, either.

We're paying Paul less than half what we'd be paying Mulkey. Baseball tickets are several times as expensive as WBB, and sell several times as many moreover (even when baseball sucked and WBB was awesome in the early to mid 00s). And they still barely break even.

Even when Pokey was here and we made the Final Four so many years in a row, the PMAC was still effectively empty for a normal SEC game. Only big crowds I remember were vs. Tennessee.

I'm not against hiring KM or even paying her the reported numbers. I just think the "why do you care, you're not paying for it" argument in the OP is dumb. Every TAF member is paying for it.

Do you not think if seats were consistently filled with asses watching a good product on the floor that it would not make money. Really!!!!!!!!
1) No matter how good we are, seats will not be consistently filled with asses watching women's basketball.

2) Even if seats were filled with asses watching women's basketball, the prices we would be able to charge for tickets would not come close to making money.

Really!!!!!!!

Newsflash..........................seats are not consistently filled with assess for mens basketball at LSU either. The only sport that consistently fills asses in the seats is football. It is THE cash cow here, not any of the other sports. So let it continue to be what it is, a cash cow and help support all the other sports. It's the only way it can work under the rules of the NCAA. Otherwise, get rid of the other 11 non-revenue sports at the university.

People can’t bitch about LSU women’s basketball sucking under Nikki and then bitch about spending to get one of the best coaches

Spend the money and bring back a solid women’s program

She is someone who is worth whatever they have to pay her

I think a lot of posters posting this shite must have forgotten how fun it was when the womens team fricking lived in the final four

I haven’t forgotten anything. Girl’s basketball is boring at any level. I’d rather have someone pour sand into my eyes and then try to sweep it out with a broom than sit through girls’ basketball.

And I damn sure won’t sit through and entire regular AND post season. This isn’t the mid-2000’s anymore. I have streaming services out the arse now.

Based on the mid 2000’s run

Mid-2000’s run ain’t coming back. People now have streaming services and VR video games (not to mention a phobia of being near other people).

There are too many actually entertaining options at hand to draw thousands to see bad basketball in person.

And sports entertainment is losing ratings across the board as it is. Even the NFL is losing viewers (not to mention the NBA). Can you imagine paying to endure PSA’s where some roided 20 something girl is "using her platform" to screech about social justice?

The mid-2000’s just aren’t coming back, my friend.

Most people on this board don’t realize that even the most successful women’s basketball teams will rarely ever break even. The thought of being in the black with this hire is not even an expectation. From a business standpoint this hire makes no sense. However, I look forward to watching a good product on the court again. The Mulkey deal will be final by mid week.

Sound thinking
Got nothing to do with a money making sport. Got everything to do with showing massive support for the largest woman’s sport in the middle of a title IX disaster.

While you are correct, some of these folks aren't taking into consideration that Woody has access to the financial books. He knows the potential of the program and knows how much of a financial risk we can afford. He's not going to blindly throw a number at anyone just to get them here. Even if it doesn't make sense in a basketball revenue perspective, it will make sense from an overall perspective.

Correct. It’s about bringing the best for the fans, creating interest and pushing a positive brand.
