Maybe in a relative sense. But it reshuffles the deck a lot. Not sure how much of it is NIL driven vs 'just getting on the field in hopes of making it to the next level.'

Players can't wait on the coaches because they may never see the field. Coaches can't wait on players because they have to win now.

I know it's taken away part of the fan experience of watching for players to develop and pulling for them to succeed and poof. They gone.

Yes.

I cheer for the "uniform", not the individual players. My fandom is not tied to watching a guy come in and develop over the course of 3-4 years. I will cheer for the guys wearing the uniform this season. And if those guys leave I will cheer for the next group wearing the uniform next season.

It's a form of entertainment. The personal aspects of it have never increase/decreased my interest unless I happened to personally know a player.

Have you looked at where half of our baseball team was playing at last year? There's just not as much money involved in college baseball as there is in college basketball and football, so it may seem a little less blatant.

Comparing a sophomore QB at a school like tenneseee sitting out practice due to million dollar “dispute discussions” to a kid going from Utah Valley or San Diego St to play for LSU is asinine. Just completely dumb and not close to similar deals.

I would be disgusted if someone on our roster pulled that

It already happened to this team. It was taken care of before the season luckily, but BK did pull the "This is LSU, don't think we won't just get another transfer in to take your spot".

Notice how none of the transfer were immediately on the first tear offense or defense? Making em earn it right? Thats the tone BK is setting with the NIL deal. "We'll pay, but you'll earn it."

They are making it easy to be a baseball only fan. I realize baseball has NIL but football has gotten out of control.

Baseball is by far my favorite college sport. Dont care about basketball, and football is declining rapidly.

I actually enjoyed watching some DII and DIII football games last year. They looked like they were happy to be there.

What's strange about situations like this is it isn't like the NFL with a salary cap and the decision on how much to pay certain players is 100% up to the team itself. Here, it's up to boosters and local businesses to decide to come up with more money. The Tennessee coaches can say "sure, we think you are worth what you're saying you are, go out and find a booster or business to pay you that." The school itself can only do so much.

Not necessarily. Part of recruiting now is going to be identifying guys in his situation. Cares about LSU and family has some money so he’s not out to get every cent at all cost. And doesn’t have handlers, he has parents. It’s on the staff to find the few guys like that out there and get them in the building.

Of course. What does Nico quitting on his team have to do with me? I root for LSU. If one of our players did that I’d say gtfo and continue to root for my team.

I checked out in 21. Love the tailgating but I just sit and watch our subcontractors vs their subcontractors. Zero passion zero gaf about results. And Vegas was my last of many roadtrips. Shame.

Alt: you're one of the most rational posters on this board, but I think most college football fans have found their interest level drastically decreased over the last few years. I don't even know the roster until halfway through the season, and even then I don't care because I know half will transfer before next season.

My emotional attachment to the game is gone. What made college football great is gone. It's just a different version of pro football, and even worse with the immediate-play transfer.

I think most fans wake up on fall Saturdays with far less interest in the college game because of NIL and the portal. I'm certainly one of those people.

And that's sad.

All it would take is a really good season and a playoff run to bring you back.

I didn’t purchase my season tickets this year! Transfer portal and NIL has ruined football!
