With NIL and Portal.... why not allow one and done like basketball?

Logically, it’s the next step. If the constraints of movement and money are eliminated by the NCAA, why shouldn’t players be allowed to go to NFL. Young athletes are in much better physical conditioning now, so let the NFL develop the talent by expanding the developmental roster. It hasn’t destroyed college basketball, but it has changed the dynamics among historically power teams and now you’re seeing Gonzaga and others with a chance to win a championship.

NFL won't do anything that costs them money and doesn't make them money. They won't do a developmental league.

Stingley should’ve been in the NFL last year.

Because there are only a few players that are physically developed to compete at 19 years. Now if the NFL develops a G league, you could see some movement.

Not a developmental league. Just expand the practice squad by 5 - 10 players for developmental purposes. They could conceivably be signed to the regular roster with injuries, Covid, etc.

Go out of high school if good enough.
Baseball allows it.

most 18 & 19-year-olds are not developed enough to make it to the pros immediately and in baseball, most of them start off with years in the minor league.
They are two completely different sports

Why would the draft eligibility rule be linked in any way to NIL or the portal?

Greed of the pro leagues. They created this

because the NFL, just like most other jobs, have set a minimum requirement and don’t really give a shite about the rules of other organizations.

Colleges have no control over that. It’s part of the nfl/nba/mlb collective bargaining agreements.

Because that’s not what the practice roster is for.
And again, they don’t want to do that. They want to cherry pick players after over 100 teams do the development and sorting for them

it's the NFL's rule, not the NCAA's.
There's at least a couple reasons for the rule:
1. the NFL can use college as their testing ground for evaluating players.
2. most 18 year olds aren't physically ready to play pro ball with 25-30 year old men

I was just thinking about the same thing

And also number 3.
It’s a free minor league system for the NFL that gives their players maximum exposure and a built in fanbase once they enter the league.

And also, it would need to be collectively bargained. And the union isn’t going to make it easier for younger guys to take jobs from older guys.
