I guarantee they haven't faced a defense as fast and as fit and as deep as LSU's while retaining that size.
I guarantee that they faced a better SEC defensive line the last game they played.

You guys are flat out ignorant if you don't think Wisconsin will at least rush for 150 yards.
Okay, and when they pass for 23 yards, who's going to win?

What did Penn State and Ohio State do to Wisconsin that slowed their run game? I havn't watched those games yet but I'm sure Les and the coaches will.
Wisconsin, uncharacteristically, threw the ball a whole bunch against Ohio State and had a lot of success. Stave threw for 35 times for 300 yards...2 touchdowns and 1 pick.
As for the Penn State game...I'm not sure. I was too busy drowning my sorrows after the Michigan - Ohio State game.

I wouldn't say South Carolina "whipped" them. It was a 1 score game until the 4th. Wisconsin had plenty of opportunities to come back but turned the ball over three times in the last six minutes.

Agree.

How many yards did Jennings throw for against Iowa? Let's not act like LSU is trotting out Zach Mettenberger.

We certainly lost experience at DT, but Hunter and Rasco are a year more experienced, White and Robinson showed significant improvement over the course of the season and the LBs should be somewhat better with Kwon, Debo, Beckwith, Garrett and a more experienced Welter.
Lotson was a big loss, but he was inconsistent and Mills looks like a better safety than CB. Jefferson, Martin and Adams add to an extremely talented DB pool.
I think the D will be good. How good depends on development of the DTs. All other positions I see as either better or a push.
I agree that Wisky will move the ball on the ground, but I don't think they will enough to win. The only question will be if LSU has turnovers then they might lose. Otherwise I see a 27-17 LSU win in a hard fought game.

The game will come down to
A) Which team can stop the run
and
B) Which team can avoid turnovers (I expect sloppiness from both offenses, frankly)
21-17 LSU. Game will be ugly.

How many starters to Wisconsin Lose on their defensive front 7?
Posted on 8/7/14 at 10:54 am to BayouCowboy
It's clear that the vast majority here know absolutely nothing about UW or what we do. We are not like most B1G teams. Our recruiting rankings mean less than squat. We have 40 players in the NFL right now to LSU's 54. No one would argue that UW is more talented than LSU this year or any year, because we're not, but that's not whats important. What is important is that UW has enough talent. If we play our A game we can hang with any team in the country. Our track record backs that up going back two decades now. We are not some scrub team with a bunch of big slow dudes that you are going to wow with your athleticism. The difference is not going to be anywhere near as great as many here seem to think. UW has NFL players at every level too.
Much has been made of the fact that UW is replacing its whole front 7. While true, it is also much less of a issue than has been represented. UW uses a heavy, 8+, man rotation on the D-line. The guys that are now the 'starters' will play a bit more than the next 2 guys at their position but the snaps will be pretty evenly split. Similarly the 'new' starters saw significant PT last year in the rotation. Moreover, this is going to be a completely new look for the Badgers. We ran pretty much the same 4-3 base D for the last 20 years. Last year we got Dave Aranda as our D-coordinator and with him, a blitz heavy, rotating 3-4. The only problem was that, last year, we didn't have the personnel to run it effectively so we basically stayed in a much heavier and basic front to properly utilize our talent. This year we have the pieces in place to let em loose and start running our real stuff. LSU isn't going to be the only team with speed to burn on the edges.
Finally, Stave. He is being massively under credited both here and by my fellow Badger fans. Yes he can be inconsistent at times, PSU in particular, but he is far from the non-factor people are dismissing him as. Last year on a team with literally only one threat, he managed to throw for 2,494 yards, at a 61.9% clip with 22 TDs and 13 ints. Far too many picks, but many of those could just as easily be blamed on our receivers for deflecting catchable passes or running the wrong routes. Most importantly, he was a sophomore. In Mettenberger's second year, with two of the best Wr's in LSU history, he threw for 2,609 yards 58.8% with 12 TDs and 7 ints. The point being that Stave is no Russell Wilson, but he is not complete garbage either. UW can win with him at QB. We don't know what our WRs will look like but they are the least important piece to our program. Anyone at the college level can beat one on one coverage if the QB is given enough time to find him. Our run game forces teams to play 8 in the box at all times, so whoever it is playing out wide for us the will only have to beat one guy. Even given LSU's stellar CBs we will be able to beat them a few times a game, which is all we need if Stave has a decent game.
I will end with the simple confirmation that, yes, we will be running the ball down Danielle Hunter's throat. We run the ball down everyone's throat. Don't take our kindness for weakness. We respect LSU and all you have accomplished (with your B1G coaches), but we sure as heck are not afraid of you. We saw the fight that Iowa gave you last year, and boys let me tell you, we are no F'n Iowa. If you are expecting to just show up and win because you are LSU and we're Wisconsin, it will be a long night in Houston for you and yours. I know I can't wait for kickoff.

Perhaps that's good. However, LSU does have some recent history of poor performances against replacements, so I would not hang your hat on this too much.

They will run for over 175 I think. But I think LSUs D is better than theirs' and will get more stops than they can. 31-21 LSU.

A wing and a prayer pass saved us from losing to the absolutely horrible Piggy squad that was beaten soundly by Rutgers.

South Carolina was trailing the majority of the game vs UW. They didn't take the lead until 3 mins were left in the 3rd quarter. On the very next series as UW was driving for the answer, Stave got knocked out of the game and our O stalled from there. It was no where near a whooping.

I'm not, let's act like LSU is trotting out a cloned copy of Jeremy Hill.

Good insight and analysis. Most rational LSU fans have plenty of respect for Wisconsin.
Please hang around. We could use more Wisconsin perspective around here....maybe even a little trash talk from the Badger faithful. Looking forward to Houston.
