ULL played some games at Blackham Coliseum when they were renovating a couple years ago. It probably wouldn’t be that difficult.

Please Rant... don't go in too hard on me for asking this question...
I'm 30. Brought up on LSU football/baseball. Not so much basketball. I watch as many LSU basketball games as I can, now days and in recent past, and go to a few a year they're so much fun! But... what is the Cow Palace? And other than Alleva being a total tool, why would he say no to a game there?
Tia.

I live 8 hours away and I’d still drive in to town to see a game in Cow Palace if it happened. Even on a workday.
I’m too young to have seen a game there so I’d love the opportunity. Plus the Cow Palace was one of my favorite places to take a dump as a student so it holds a special place in my heart. The bathrooms were always pretty clean and nobody else ever goes in there. There’s some old graffiti in those stalls so it’s like a little museum.

no, No, NO, HELL NO!
I attended LSUMBB games in that crappy venue from 1965 til the Assembly Center opened my junior year at LSU. It was an absolute nightmare to see a game in. As an avid LSUMBB fan since I was in 9th grade, the best thing that ever happened to LSUMBB was leaving that frickin' armpit.
Use it for ag stuff and rodeos because that was what it was intended for.

Gonna need some details George.
I mean, it’s old and creaky. So is Tiger Stadium. What makes the Cow Palace so bad?

The Ag Center. They also filmed a few bball scenes from Glory Road in there.
While I forgive a younger guy for not knowing something like this, THIS is exactly why every single incoming freshman or grad student should have to take & pass LSU 101.
What a glorious course that would cover the founding of our great institution, the Old War Skule years, original colors, how we got purple & gold, the Indian Mounds, the Lakes, Tiger Stadium/Ag Center/Alex Box (both of them), Neck + all the song/lyrics of the Golden Band, & of course-Mike the Tiger I-VII.

But... what is the Cow Palace?
Its the place where Pete Maravich broke the all time scoring record in college basketball.
With smaller seating capacity students ahd to line up by mid afternoon for a 7:30 game tobe assured of entry.
Other than Kentucky the SouthernCal game in December of 1969 was the most high profile game that year. Thousands of students were unable to get into the bilding that evening.
This was before all of the TV coverageand most teams only hd 3 or 4 games televised . LSU might have gotten a few more due to Maravich but nothing like today where ll games are broadcast.

Thank you for bringing info on recruiting
Please relay a message to Alleva:
tell him we cannot wait until he resigns so we can find a competent AD who will hire a legitimate football coach. Also, please tell him to quit pissing Will Wade off bc he's the one good coach Alleva can somewhat take credit for hiring.
He needs to worry about why his recruiting only football coach can't get a DL commit to save his arse and leave Wade alone.

There was a thread here about that a few years back, something to try to bring some sort of excitement to the comatose hoops fan base. Many said no way the building was not up for it.
I don't think WW believes in "No Way".

LSU v. Kentucky in the Cow Palace
I would have to think though it would need major safety upgrades, i.e. sprinker systems, ada compliance etc however I have no clue what I am talking about either and would definitly go to that game. I would even buy throwback jerseys for the game for my 2 boys and I.

Nobody went to the games there before Maravich showed up, and now everyone wants to go to a game there. Strange.

I used to work at the PMAC putting the floor down and picking it up and moving the court wouldn't be that big of a deal IMO. It breaks down into 4'x8' sections that weigh about 200-250lbs each. They could easily for lift them onto a truck and move them to the cow palace.
It normally takes about an hour to break down the court or put it down. It would definitely take upwards of 5 hours or so to get it to the palace but that isn't an insurmountable issue IMO.

This game already sells out. Ideally they would put an out of conference game in Nov in there to get people excited about the rest of the season. Hopefully get some extra eyes on the team and on campus that may come back later in the year due to the experience they had.

I THINK that I can still smell that place.
Fun to think about.

Google search results state that the permanent capacity is 6756. When you drop in 5-10 more rows of stacked bleachers in front of the permanent ones and lay out floor seating behind the goals, it's easily conceivable to think that you could push 10K+ in total capacity. I think if anything that is a conservative estimate.
ETA - wiki shows 12,000 as the "peak capacity". I am assuming that is the number for the basketball layout (historically). That's not bad at all.

I honestly think if you had the Cow Palace Classic meaning you put 3 instate teams in Friday Sunday games.
Something like this
Friday 5:00/7:30
ULL vs. Southeastern
LSU vs. Tulane
Sunday 2:00/4:30
Tulane vs. Southeastern
LSu vs. ULL
I think you could sell out 10,000 for the package for fans to see those two games easy, and it would bring a ton of excitement and Tulane/ULL are getting there programs better. I love the appreciation Wade has for history he talked about it when he took the job. Its the little things like this that infuriate me with Alleva (just one of many issues) what would be the cost to do this? The reward would be incredible and get older and younger generations greatly involved.

That's what I'm saying. Can you imagine a "new-retro" cow palace? Completely renovated, new technology, etc., but completely restored with a capacity of around 10k? Place would be lit.
