And he does a phenomenal job with our big guys. I’ve always coached the big guys wherever I’ve been. I enjoy coaching bigs. It takes a lot for me to give that up. I’m still going to be pretty involved in it. But I have a lot of comfort with Coach Benford down there.

Coach Heiar is somebody I’ve known for a long time. I’ve been down at Chipola and seen his teams down there. He was 169-15 as the head coach at Chipola. That’s doing it, now. That’s a winner. Everywhere he’s gone, he’s won. As you follow his career, he left Chipola and went to Southern Miss. Southern Miss was coming off some rough years. They turned it around with Coach (Larry) Eustachy and Coach Heiar. They won big there, won 20-plus games a couple of years. Then he went to Wichita State. He got to Wichita State six years ago, and that’s when Wichita State really took off, started making consistent NCAA Tournament appearances. He brings a lot to us in recruiting. He has deep, deep junior college ties. We’ll be able to get involved with some of the best junior college players in the country.

Aaron Epps and Wop (Duop Reath) have both been some of our more consistent guys. Skylar Mays has been one of our more consistent guys. When you start looking at leadership, you start looking at guys who do the right thing all the time, who do it every day. We call Epps “Everyday Epps.” You can set your watch to him. He’s consistent, he works hard every day. Skylar Mays does the same thing. Wop does the same thing. We’ve got some other guys who are working really hard as well, but those guys stand out.
LOL ppl sleeping on Epps. Great stuff.

I said it before. I will flat out shocked if Elbert and Jalyn are on this team next year.
They are the two most likely casualties of a new high intensity coach. This seems like the last straw and attempt to get them to pick it up

Depending on when the interview was done, Jenkins may have been one of them.

So based on who is still currently on the roster, the 2-3 guys are of Elbert, Patterson, Sampson and Simms, minus one.

Good point.

I think it's entirely likely that Elbert doesn't make it to next year with this team.
BUT, what if he does actually buy in? Is there any kind of impact he can have for us, or is he just a lost cause?

How in the world did we get Wade? This guy will take us to the next level. Props to Joe on this hire.
Obviously, we won't know how it'll work out in the end, but given our current program status, this guy is a slam dunk.

It's really tough to say. ER III's high school film was pretty rough, he just bullied people and got away with it mostly. No idea why he was ranked a 4-star, because with known weight problems and lack of athleticism it made no sense for him to be ranked so highly. Wasn't it his freshman year here he lost a lot of weight (like got down to 240-250) and he still was pretty bad. Like I said previously, the biggest thing with ER III is he doesnt know how to play without fouling. It's a pretty basic coaching technique he could learn to avoid fouls, and hopefully Wade does instill that in him. He just wants to use his size to bully people on offense and defense and in today's game you just cant do that.

You almost have to think of him as a freshman since the previous staff did not develop his game at all. Hopefully he is still motivated to improve.

Is he still kicking around the football idea?

Elbert will have his best year yet.
Just like we were gonna win 11 SEC games last year, huh?

Agreed. This guy has a clear vision on every aspect of his program. I'll put a disclaimer here that I'm NOT imparting Wade to Saban on a personal level. But as for coaching and program direction, this hire looks a lot like the Saban hire in late 1999.

e’ve got two or three who are teetering on if they want to jump all the way in and make all that progress, or if maybe it may be a little too challenging for them. We’re fine either way. I like to tell people all the time, in our program, you’re going to sink or swim. There’s nobody going to be floating. You’re not going to float. You’re going to sink, or you’re going to swim. One of the two. There’s nobody that’s just going to float on top of the water with us.
that is fan fricking tastic. love this approach. I'll gladly wait for Wade to build "his" team. WOW!!

Brother, I couldn't be more excited about Will Wade being our coach.

A lot of "floaters" last season... or drifters.
I know most on here dont like to hear anything UK but this sounds a lot like Pitino when he had to rebuild UK while on probation and very little to work with. He had the managers put garbage cans on the court for practice and the team wondered what they were for... at least for a little while. He ran them daily until they puked and puked and puked. This rebuild intensity will be interesting to see.

What if they just Wade in the water?

He singled out Epps, Reath, and Mays as guys who have bought in and work hard every day.
Says they nicknamed Epps "Every day Epps" because you know he's gonna give it his all every day.
Interesting to see who has been shining in the workouts.
Edit: S beat me to it.
